About this listen

LITTLE SISTERS MAKE BIG PROBLEMS!

Rudeus has adventured across continents and survived run-ins with gods--and none of it has prepared him to watch Aisha and Norn when Paul leaves them temporarily in his care. Can he rise to the occasion yet again, or will parenting two preteen girls be the ordeal that ultimately defeats him?!

i really enjoyed the story, however - i really struggled with the performance near the end of the volume, the cadence was like a rollercoaster just going up and down like he was trying to do the voice out of a movie trailer for every sentence, and the last 2 hours were rough to listen through :(

other than that.. it was good

great story

amazing performance and voice over all the characters sounds so distinct and full of emotions

The novel was good as I've read it before. but the performance and narration by Chris really breathes a new dimension to the series.

amazing performance once again. can't wait for the next volumes

Coming from the anime, I was expecting some great storytelling, but I was left feeling unsatisfied. Clearly the adaptation is doing some heavy lifting.

The characters are fairly good and have good depth. There are some interesting concepts that don’t get explored often in traditional western fantasy. The first half was fairly good and I enjoyed the interplay between Rudeus and the people around him.

However things took a turn when Rudeus needed to travel. I haven’t read the previous books in the series, so I don’t know how the anime adaptation handled them. I suspect though, that the anime converts long travel arcs into short montages with adventurous music. My guess is that the entire second half of this book will be turned into a four minute montage. That’s how boring it was.

The main character, Rudeus, has his thoughts revealed in more depth in the novel as opposed to then anime adaptation. It’s not always a good thing though. I don’t know what it is, whether it’s the author or the character, but he’s obsessed with s**. No matter who it is, Rudeus is always considering who he’d bang. Sister? “She’s cute but I wouldn’t bang her cause dad would get angry.” Elf grandma? “I definitely want to bang her but she’s my wife’s grandma. Also she’s my friend’s girlfriend…” Vaguely humanoid monster? “Well I could cop a feel I guess. Need to get my rocks off somehow.” I’ve literally never read a book with this much of a focus on the character’s libido. Feels like every woman in the story is seen through the lens of, “can I bang her?”

Anyway, after finishing this book, I’ve decided that I will not be continuing with the light novels. I’ll just watch the anime which is of higher quality without a doubt.

More boring than expected
