Publisher's Summary

Mrs. D is an alcoholic, albeit a very nice, respectable, articulate, and groomed alcoholic.

This is an honest, upfront, relatable account of one suburban housewife's journey from miserable wine-soaked boozer to self-respecting sober lady.

This audiobook is an inspirational tale of self-transformation, addiction, and domesticity. This audiobook lays out the entirely unexpected solo journey Mrs. D took in the first year of her sobriety and reveals the incredible online support that came through on her confessional blog, a blog intended to be a private online diary but turned into something else quite remarkable.

A marvellous book!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I learned so much from it. It is a book for anyone who is thinking about giving up alcohol, or for anyone who has already given up alcohol. It made me realise that sobriety is hard work, & is not all joy but that it is better than boozing, ultimately. I can relate to all of the raw feelings, after giving up drinking. I recommend this book as an awesome, enlightening listen!

Surprisingly Insightful and Authentic

I wasn't sure at first. This book definitely grew on me and I didn't want it to end. Yet it ended at what seemed the right place. I've read a lot of addiction books and this was unconventional and somewhat refreshing. Funny at times but mostly the strength and insights of Mrs D were what made it a compelling listen.

Cannot Recommend. Not Inspiring.

I found the book to be tedious. Barely could finish it. Blog entries mostly about her stress and much crying and a year of many, many bad moods. While living a privileged, secure, life. And the blog comments, where others rally and sing her praises. Came across as almost narcissistic. Ho hum. I hope no one reads it and gets scared away from quitting. I am 3.5 yrs without a drink and it can be done with more calm and with more emotional equilibrium. Her last chapter does focus on the gratitude, self respect and personal satisfaction of an alcohol free life. But it is a long slog to get there.

fabulous

Down to earth story of a woman's struggle to battle alcohol addiction. A story that anyone who drinks at all can relate too.
