Publisher's Summary

When Jon Kabat-Zinn introduced the term "mindfulness" to the general public a few decades ago, he was attempting to incorporate Buddhist meditation practices with modern medical psychology and medicine. Kabat-Zinn's ideas were intriguing and effective, especially given the rather conservative setting in which he was applying his advice.

But we're a long way from Full Catastrophe Living. And the mindfulness movement is far removed from Kabat-Zinn's original ideas on the subject. Frankly, when most people use the term "mindfulness" today, it means next to nothing.

Here's the unglamorous truth about the mindfulness movement that most of us don't want to acknowledge: If we objectively watch our thoughts - and don't emotionally intercede with them - we'll probably observe ourselves having the same cycles of good thoughts and bad thoughts, repeating themselves again and again. If we meditate in such a way - without attempting to refine our thoughts, and instead simply letting them "be" - we'll often notice the same emotional cycles of our thinking recurring over the course of many months, and sometimes even years. Objective, nonjudgmental meditation makes us quite aware of this. Our specific thoughts will change - but we'll still usually have the same up and down emotional cycles within our thinking, regardless of the specific thoughts.

Excellent suggestions on mindfulness

I am a big fan of Neville, he has a direct way of exposing the truth. The suggestion to use mindfulness to think and imagine things one wants is in line with most other teachers on the subject.

I really appreciate anything Neville. His readings give prospective to all who reads. The narrator explained the manifestion of mindfulness with enthisiaum and total belief. I will use this resource for furhter clarification in the future. Love it!

Nothing new and too many bible quotes

Maybe this was revolutionary when it was released, but this is common knowledge now: visualize and feel what you want to manifest for it to manifest in your reality. There, I saved you 40 minutes and lots of unneccesary bible quotes.

Waste of time. 😢

I don't like writing bad reviews. I try hard to find something I learned or appreciated in every book. Unfortunately this was a complete waste of my time. Not being a jerk, just being honest. I'm not even sure what on earth this was.

Not worth reading it.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

As a trained MBSR/MBCT teacher, I found the authors does not understand mindfulness correctly. They put mindfulness in a goal-achieving manner and use lots of "experience selection technique" as mindfulness, which is totally wrong. Mindfulness, by definition is non-judgmental awareness. And the methods described by the authors go just against it. Actually what they claimed is not mindfulness.

What could Neville Goddard and Tim Grimes have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

To learn mindfulness better before making comments.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Greg Zarcone?

The narrator is OK. The voice and energy.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. It is misleading for new comers in this field.

Any additional comments?

remove "mindfulness" from the title.

Great delivery and content.

If you're put off by the use of the word God then you've missed the point
