Penguin presents the audiobook edition of The Burning Maze by Rick Riordan, read by Robbie Daymond. I was a god once. Until I was cast out by my father, Zeus. Now I'm an awkward mortal teenager called Lester. My way out? A series of scary and dangerous trials, of course. For my third mission, I must: Journey through the Labyrinth to free an Oracle who speaks only in puzzles. Defeat a vicious and bloodthirsty Roman Emperor - the most vicious of three very vicious and bloodthirsty Roman Emperors. Is that all? No, I've to do everything without any of my godly powers. Wonderful. Looks like I'll be needing all the help I can get. From new friends and old....

Somewhere in the American Midwest is a haunted cave that may hold answers for Apollo in his quest to become a god again...if it doesn't kill him or drive him insane first.

Story
Discover the lore behind the fantastical world of Magnus Chase. Helgi - the hotel manager - created this book for each hotel guest so that he wouldn't have to answer so many questions at the front desk. It has short entries about the deities, mythical beings, and fantastic creatures from the nine Norse worlds and also contains bonus material including interviews, newspaper articles, short stories and more. The tone is humorous, complementing Rick's series.

I hate to review poorly
The story is incredibly gripping, and fun. The narration is impossible to follow, it sounds like it's being read to a 5-year-old and unfortunately he can't pronounce very basic words correctly. I have nothing against the narrator personally and wish him all the best, however if I had to provide an audiobook that represented the failures of the American education system it would be this one.

Brilliantly charming if somewhat hard to get into
The narrator was lively and really held my interest. His variety of voices gave a distinct personality to each character without distracting from the overall story.
Magnus's story is a little messy to begin, with plot elements that struggle to come together at first but persevere and you'll be rewarded with a rich, exciting journey of four friends that celebrate diversity and excitement.
