Story
Julian was the boy next door. My brother's best friend, he fit with my family in ways I never could. While he and Rhett went on to play house, I left the only life I knew, desperate for a fresh start. Until everything changed. Heartache came along, and the aftermath of my brother's death was here to stay. I was now face to face with Julian more than I ever wanted to be. Being around him brought up all my insecurities, forced me to deal with hard truths, and conjured up feelings I had no business entertaining. He wasn't the man I thought I knew.

The Northern Lodge Pack was founded when one brave alpha and his ragtag group of buddies went on a mission to rescue his twin sister - an omega who was being held as a captive sex-slave by an evil alpha. The alpha and his buddies found five other omegas in the evil alpha's harem - and rescued them all. Along the way, the omegas are reunited with children they'd birthed in captivity and thought were lost to them forever. This bundle contains the first three books in this best-selling series.
Publisher's Summary
On the run from his old-blood werewolf family, Tim Dirus finds himself in Wolf's Paw, one of the last surviving refuges from the days when werewolves were hunted by humans and one of the last places Tim wants to be. Kept away from other wolves by his uncle, Tim knows almost nothing about his own kind except that alpha werewolves only want to control and dominate a scrawny wolf like him.
Tim isn't in Wolf's Paw an hour before he draws the attention of Sheriff Nathaniel Neri, the alpha-est alpha in a town full of alphas. Powerful, intimidating, and the most beautiful wolf Tim has ever seen, Nathaniel makes Tim feel safe for reasons Tim doesn't understand. For five years he's lived on the run, in fear of his family and other wolves. Everything about Wolf's Paw is contrary to what he thought he knew, and he is terrified. Fearing his mate will run, Sheriff Nathaniel must calm his little wolf and show him he's more than a match for this big, bad alpha.

Good Story - Bad Narration
I really liked the story but the narration was not great. I often have difficulty figuring out which character was speaking or if a piece of dialogue was a thought or spoken out loud. I still enjoyed the audiobook overall, but I would have liked it even more with better narration. This one is probably more enjoyable when read in book form.

I really enjoyed listening to this story...although at times I wanted to just smack some sense into Tim, aka Little wolf. Nathaniel was a dream and the cast of characters were awesome. The narration was great and the story was fantastical. Definitely recommend. Looking forward to reading more from R. Cooper

I cannot recommend.
Any additional comments?
I can honestly say I did not enjoy one single part or moment of this story, either listening or reading.
There is a gross miscommunication between the two main characters. Tim is actually Nathaniel's mate, which is known by Nathaniel and the whole town, but no one actually tells Tim. This goes on for 90% of the story, because everyone thinks Tim will eventually figure it out. Maddening doesn't even begin to describe it.
The audio book for the story is eighteen hours and fifty-five minutes long. I tapped out with 12 hours to go. The narration was stilted, filled with pauses, and Robert Nieman reads with such a lulling tone and with so little enthusiasm I had to fight to stay awake. There were no discernible character voices used, which is a complaint I've made before about Nieman. Adding all of these points together caused me to DNF the audio at 35%. I just couldn't listen to a minute more.
But I still hoped for something, anything, to validate the time I'd already put into this. I switched to the ebook from audio in order to try and finish the story, even though I hadn't enjoyed a moment of it until that point, because hope springs eternal. I thought maybe something would break and the story would get better for me.
It didn't.
I cannot recommend it.

DNF
I have to give this book a DNF. I chose the audiobook because I’d enjoyed this series so far and I really like Robert Nieman as a narrator. I owned the book, but was always a bit daunted by it’s length given what I saw was a pretty cut and dried premise.
Unfortunately, I could NOT get into this audiobook.
I guess I have a pretty big bias and that is the “call of the MATE”. To me – that’s what makes shifter stories great. That huge, compelling, drive to find and Mate who is the other half of your soul.
That’s not in here.
From reading other reviews and skimming the end of the books I realize that it’s not til the last 10% of the book that Tim and Nathanial acknowledge that they’re mates. I gave up was near the 50% point when Nathanial essentially pushes Tim into bed with Albert. NO, no, no, nonononono.
That isn’t something a mate should be able to do. So I stopped.
I have to say the word usage and phrasing is beautiful. But it went on and on and on and on.
What needed to boil down to “you’re scared of alphas” but “I’m a nice alpha and we’re mates so I could never hurt you” took place over 18 hours.
It was too much for me. Or at least the audio format was too daunting.
Since I wasn’t compelled enough to read the book in it’s entirety - based on my listening thus far - I called it quits.

3.5 story
I enjoyed this book but felt that it was a little long-winded and repetitive. The story felt as though it could have used another few edits to shorten it some. The slow build romance gets lost at times as Tim says and thinks the same things every few pages. That being said, I like all the characters and would love to listen to Albert's story next.

As I’ve said about prior audiobooks by this author, I really liked it when I read it. However, listening to the audio version brings the experience up to another level. R. Cooper is a wonderful writer, creating interesting storylines and characters. I strongly recommend any thing she’s written to her intended audience.

The ONLY problem I have is the narrator. His voice is nice but the performance is so monotoned I fell asleep in the middle of the day listening to this. If he could've put any emotion into the performance, this would be another story- literally!

I adore this book and love the audio
First love is tricky, especially when one of the parties is emotionally immature. There is a lot of soul searching and misdirection that really fits the story. Told from the POV of an ingenue, we are taken on Tim's journey of discovery. I must admit that the stops and starts are frustrating. Darn instinct aside. But I think back to when l was that young. Everything was mysterious and just walking to the store was cause for an existential crisis. This is a very good reflection on so many roles. I especially recommend this story to people who enjoy character driven books. As in, if you love gossip and innuendo, this is perfect for you. I read this book years ago and just purchased the audio. I forgot just how much I love this series. This is my first title read by Robert Nieman. He's quite good - nice flow and melodious voice. He managed to convey Tim's snark and sass with a mixture of confusion and exasperation. He totally nailed it. I'm so looking forward to listening again and again.

Slow...SLOW Build
The story was cute and I really like Robert Nieman's voice (have since In the Middle of Somewhere: Middle of Somewhere, Book 1) but the story is a slow burn...a REALLY slow burn. it isn't until the last chapter that the protagonist realizes what everyone (literally EVEYone) knows is going on and some of the choices made by the main characters are maddingly questionable. That said, the "romance" was good and the scenes were well thought out.

Great story, oddly paced narration
I loved this story - it's pretty long at nearly 19 hours, but I was engaged the whole way in Nathanial and Tim's relationship. However, the pace of the narration was odd - there were loads of instances when the narrator seemed to finish a sentence and then realise there was more left to read in that sentence and just carried on speaking as if he hadn't stopped. It's a real shame as his interpretation of Tim was great (although I sometimes found it hard to work out who was speaking between Nathanial and Tim) but the speed/pace was just a bit to jerky for me.
