Publisher's Summary

Has your doctor lied to you?

Eat low-fat and high-carb, including plenty of “healthy” whole grains - does that sound familiar? Perhaps, this is what you were told at your last doctor’s appointment or visit with a nutritionist, or perhaps, it is something you read online when searching for a healthy diet. And maybe, you’ve been misled. Dr. Ken Berry is here to dispel the myths and misinformation that have been perpetuated by the medical and food industries for decades.

This updated and expanded edition of Dr. Berry’s best seller Lies My Doctor Told Me exposes the truth behind all kinds of “lies” told by well-meaning but misinformed medical practitioners. Nutritional therapy is often overlooked in medical school, and the information provided to physicians is often outdated. However, the negative consequences on your health remain the same. Advice to avoid healthy fats and stay out of the sun has been proven to be detrimental to longevity and can wreak havoc on your system.

In this audiobook, Dr. Berry will enlighten you about nutrition and life choices, their role in our health, and how to begin an educated conversation with your doctor about finding the right path for you.

This book will teach you:

  • Facts doctors are taught to think about nutrition and other preventative health measures and how they should be thinking
  • Story of how the food pyramid and MyPlate came into existence and why they should change
  • Facts about fat intake and heart health
  • Truth about the effects of whole wheat on the human body
  • Role of dairy in your diet
  • Truth about salt - friend or foe?
  • Dangers and benefits of hormone therapy
  • New information about inflammation and how it should be viewed by doctors

Come out of the darkness and let Ken Berry be your guide to optimal health and harmony!

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

A big fat OMG!

I was brought to this book by my IF journey into good health and researching all about our macros etc...I enjoyed this book thoroughly and the author has done a great job in outlining how we have been lied to all these years by our so called experts. In fact, there has been so many lies over the years, by the end of the book I was starting to think "is this author a paranoid schizo"? The one lie I had big trouble swallowing was the - Fibre is necessary for a health gut and the amount of fat he has in his diet and remains at a normal weight. Luckily I was watching the reality show "Alone" at the same time. I was fascinated that some these contestants were eating lots of protein, moderate carbs, yet still could not could keep their weight up. More importantly, the emphasis they put on including fat in their diet and how listless they felt without it. So I have experimented on myself recently. Included much more fat in my diet, reduced the fibre and protein and I have lost weight, Well...my....my....my as Lt Joe Kenda would say! I resolved the constant fatigue and intermittent constipation I could not explain as I was getting more than adequate 'fibre" and felt more energetic than I have in years. Narrator was a bit flat but that didnt distract from the book any.

Great book - Very eye opening

It's amazing some of the continued non-truths we have, and continue to be told, about our health and wellbeing. I think we know about 10% of the full amount of knowledge we can know about nutrition and the human body, but $$ are stopping the world from acknowledging the mistakes of the past and moving forward. My only suggesting is to label the chapters in Audible, as these don't align with the book chapters and becomes confusing. Plus, I want to go back and revisit certain chapters relevant to me and read them again, so it would be easier to see exactly what chapter I'm clicking on.

Every Human should read this

You remember when you were young and your mum told you things which you took as the truth and when you grew up you found out some of them weren’t true. Now as adults you believe everything your doctors say. Just like our mothers wisdom can sometimes be incorrect so can our doctors wisdom. Doctors are all human and make mistakes or are just plain ignorant about things to do with our health. This book gets you on the right path to question everything that comes out of your doctors mouth. I have been thinking this way for the last 18months myself when I had a CSF leak from a 1cm hole at the base of my skull and fluid was leaking out of one nostril. I was told by one doctor it was allergies and when I questioned about getting the CSF presence fluid test he said no such test exist. I asked to be referred to an ENT because I felt he didn’t know what he was talking about and the first thing they did was test the fluid coming out of my nose. A $25,000 operation 3 weeks later by the ENT knowing what they were talking about saved many complications from brain sag, meningitis, and massive headaches for the rest of my life. Don’t risk your life with ignorant doctors. I have since found myself a new doctor who is brilliant. Take charge of your health and start by reading this book from DR Berry. It may one day save your life

Extremely informative!

I read the Kindle version several months ago and it’s already improved my health. I was excited for a refresher with this audible version. If you’re not familiar with Dr.Berry from his fantastic YouTube videos you won’t care that the narrator sounds a bit robotic and lacks the personality & charisma of Dr. Berry. The content is fantastic! Sometimes I was very pissed off reading how decades of bad advice has evolved in the medical community and has personally affected me and my family. Hopefully Dr.Berry’s next book will be narrated by him...

Illiterate Narrator

I’m a non-native, but I do know that indictment has no dick in it. Narrators should prep better.

Excellent Book

Awesome Read. Great information in easy language. Every medical professional person should read and question their own understanding of the things they practice. Dr. Berry does an amazing job uncovering some REAL truths in order to really help not only himself but his patients and thousands of others who blindly believed "doctors knew all". They don't and this book helps shine some truths on a few of those areas that more science and research should been taught in medical schools.

Bias much!?

While the book is full of interesting information it’s nothing you haven’t seen on some post on Instagram. The author is also extremely bias to certain methodologies (paleo/Keto) while dismissing even bashing others. Save your credit for another book, I wish I would have.

I love Dr. Ken Berry!

I’ve listened to Ken Berry on several podcasts, which is how I found out about his book. I enjoyed this book’s content, humor, and simplified debunking of common medical myths. However, I wish Dr. Berry had read it himself. My only criticism is that the monotone voice used took away from the listening experience. However, I’d still recommend this book to everyone I care about.

Can’t listen to the narrator!

Love Dr Berry and the hard copy of this book. But the narrator of the audible book is horrible and I can’t take listening to him. 😖 He sounds robotic. I wish Dr Berry had narrated his own book. I’m going to return this version and hope for a new narrator in the future. 🤞

Thought Provoking

I like that Dr Berry gives references so you can verify what he's saying. There are some 'lies' that I discovered a while ago (great to hear another take) but so much of the book is new to me. Will listen to it again soon and will recommend to friends and family. One of the best on the subject. Grab it now, you won't be disappointed (except with governments, medical establishment, big food and pharma)!

Disappointing

So I'm a big Dr Berry fan and have probably heard most of the content through the countless videos of his that I have watched on Youtube. I know there were lots of issues with the audiobook in who was reading it etc and that he could not do it himself but I was really excited about this book and hoped to share it with my family. Good points- Clears so many myths and 'truths' that we have carried for years from older generations and clever marketing. The fattening of animals was a particular 'OMG, well durr' moment! Bad points- -Is it just me or does the narrator or at least their voice randomly change on many occasions totally ruining the flow of the book? Like random bits were put in later? The production/editing lets the whole book down here for me. -Dr B talks about how correlation is not great evidence and can't be used to prove facts yet he does the exact same thing when talking about milk. -No links or evidence to back him up. I get that he didn't want to bulk out the book with lots of links but surely they could have been given as a pdf or a listed on his website. Again he says the average person doesn't know how to find the good evidence so please show us on PubMed which are good -He contradicts himself about his own eating! Early on he says how he has nuts every day but later when talking about fibre he tells us he hasn't had any in weeks! I get that this is a second edition but surely these things should have been clarified where his views and experiences have changed over the years.

Read it. Take back control of your health.

I was familiar with Ken Barry's YouTube videos before listening to this book. He is an important member of the vanguard of doctors, specialists, scientists, researchers and even investigative journalists who are smart enough to be able to see the inconsistencies in the science that is currently accepted without question by many members of the medical profession, and who are not afraid to call it out, and have the communication skills to convey that to ordinary folk. The book was not a disappointment. I did at one point find the repetitive format of each chapter slightly annoying. the same style of opening and closing. Later in the book it did not bother me, I could see the value in the repetition. it underscored the fact that each "lie" may be different, but the problem is also the same one. The fact that doctors don't question what they are told as often as they should. And also that our options are the same when confronted with this. We try to work with our doctor or we find a new one Or we educate ourselves and have the confidence to take our health into our own hands.

This doctor tells no lies

Great book, well written and narrated. It confirmed many ideas I have gleaned from numerous other sources, this book could save your life or at the very least improve the quality of it, and perhaps extend it. Fascinating facts. Thank you Doctor Ken Berry for these confirmations and sometimes surprising new insights.

Couldn’t listen for more than a few minutes

I was looking forward to the content of this audible book, but it was told by a computer generated voice (if it wasn’t then it was very dull and monotonous) I could not listen any further
