About this listen

The war begins....

The world of Ruin erupts into the flames of war as a great evil rises once more from the Tombs of Eternal Midnight. Werewolves and vampires march from the east, the orcs of Umnoth are on the move, and cities disappear beneath the boots of these savage hordes. Kingdoms field desperate armies in a last desperate bid to stop the tides of darkness, but the truth is clear.

The hour of final ruin has come.

Yet the wizard Vandahar has one more card to play: Rangers. Allied with elves and dwarves, they set out to strike at the very heart of the evil Lich Pharaoh’s domain by attacking from a wholly unexpected direction.

Survival. Asymmetrical warfare. Total surprise. This is what the Rangers do best.

But first they must survive the Citadel.

What the forces of evil have started, the Rangers will finish!

Comes with standard issue awesomeness and Anspach & Cole's signature K-T-F, but also brings some serious feels... if anyone ever says military adventure can't be layered, complex or deeply poetic, you show 'em this book.

I absolutely love the idea, the execution is awful as the writer cannot keep from wandering off on five to ten minute tangents that while occasionally colourful are unbelievable in the repetition.
this is like sitting in an American therapy circle as people get their ptsd off their shoulders. it might work for some but it is an absolute slog for others.

the writer needs a teaspoon of cement and a good editor to help them start at the start and work through the story while adding the good and colourful world building and removing 90% of the following references;
coffee, warts and all, the constant repetition of ranger this and ranger that.
it detracts from the story so badly that I am unable to recommend this book series to anyone unwilling to get the kindle as this voice actor butchers what little good is left.

Great Story bad way to tell it
