Publisher's Summary

Just Eat It isn’t just an audiobook. It’s part of a movement to give women power and control over our bodies. To free us from restrictive dieting, disordered eating and punishing exercise. To reject the guilt and anxiety associated with eating and, ultimately, to help us feel good about ourselves.

This anti-diet guide from registered nutritionist Laura Thomas PhD can help you sort out your attitude to food and ditch punishing exercise routines. As a qualified practitioner of Intuitive Eating - a method that helps followers tune in to innate hunger and fullness cues - Thomas gives you the freedom to enjoy food on your own terms.

There are no rules: only simple, practical tools and exercises including mindfulness techniques to help you recognise physiological and emotional hunger, sample conversations with friends and colleagues, and magazine and blog critiques that call out diet culture.

So, have you ever been on a diet? Spent time worrying that you looked fat when you could have been doing something useful? Compared the size of your waistline to someone else's? Felt guilt, actual guilt, about the serious crime of...eating a doughnut? You're not alone. Just Eat It gives you everything you need to develop a more trusting, healthy relationship with food and your body.

The audiobook of Just Eat It includes four bonus podcast episodes featuring the author, Laura Thomas PhD, RNutr, and a contributor per episode including Sofie Hagen, Natalie Lee (of StyleMeSunday), Tally Rye and Clemmie Telford.

Absolutely Life changing!

Thank you so much for writing your book. For years I’ve been restricting & binging. Punishing myself for not being able to stick to a diet, berating myself for failing to stick to my low carb, no sugar, no dairy, no fun existence and being OBSESSED with food/body image which has captivated every waking moment. Thank you for making me feel normal and inviting my body to make the decisions - it’s honestly life changing. Your book is lighthearted and beautifully written. Thank you, thank you, thank you

Unnatural

It doesn’t feel natural for her to swear so it made me feel uncomfortable listening to it.

I’m sure there is good intent behind what she is saying and I was onboard with some of it but in general she just sounds angry.

I gave it until about half way through and then decided I wasn’t getting much from it and stopped listening.

Intuitive Eating that actually means something

I loved this book. If you are interested in intuitive eating or giving up dieting this is a must-read.

Blown away

Whether you are new to Intuative Eating or an old hand there is plenty of goodness in here. I was gobsmacked to learn of the average amount spent per dollar in some of the big weight loss companies. Thankyou Laura for an incredible book!

Incredibly honest

I have to admit that I haven't finished this book yet. In fact, when I bought it I was pretty sure that I would probably end up exchanging it for something else, most likely a book about Keto or Intermittent Fasting since they are the latest diets that guarantee rapid weight loss without pain or denial.
The thing is, I have tried all of the latest diets, pretty much from the time I was 18. When I started trying different diets I was not actually overweight, I just felt compelled to be thinner than I was because I wanted to look like the stick figures that I was seeing on the TV and in magazines. Now, here I am, 40 years later and still rolling from one diet to another.
Today, however, I started listening to this book. It is not wishy washy, it does not promise anything, it is just downright honest. Food is not the problem.

I cringed every time the f word was mentioned

Good information that was backed by evidence. I got to the podcast and couldn’t listen to it any further because I was completely over the swearing by that point

Imprescindible!

Creo que estas inmersa en una dieta o no, este libro es muy liberador y te abre los ojos ante un mundo dominado por la apariencia física y la cultura de la dieta. lo recomiendo 100%

If there is any subject in the world that deserves expletives... this is it!!

I’m so grateful to a young friend who pointed me in the direction of this book.
From the first page, I realised I was beginning a new road trip in my life which would begin taking me on a 180 degree turn from my at least 50 years together confusion and frustration about (and fear and loathing of) food, my body, fatness in general, ‘health’ exercise, who to believe about what I should be eating - and not trusting myself or my own body any more.

Laura has a PhD in nutrition but it’s her humanity that shines through this book for me.

Like so many of my generation and younger I have followed diets from Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Atkins, the Bullet Coffee etc, and countless more through to more ‘enlightened’ low carb-healthy fats diets... all leading me eventually towards diabetes, self-loathing, anger, lack of trust and desperation.

Although I don’t see the need for using ‘swear’ words in my daily life, I have to admit that if there’s ever a subject that deserves every expletive that Laura lays on them, it is the whole diet, fitness, ‘healthy’ ‘clean’ ‘whole’ foods industry that has become sickeningly wealthy at our expense.

I’ve also bought the paper copy of Laura’s book because it will be easier to dive back in as I have questions, being able to mark those passages of particular importance to me.
If you, like me, have given up on ever gaining control of these aspects of your life, and want a fresh perspective that will challenge your current thinking in at least some areas of this wide topic, you cannot lose by listening to this book.
It is not a new diet. It is not more restriction. It is freeing. I listened to most of it as I drove towards a wee holiday and I’m excited to have found a new mental and emotional road trip that is slowly giving me back to ability and power to live my life the way I was born to live it. Not the way others tell me to live it. The power is not in anyone else’s hands ... even Laura’s. It’s in mine, and I fully embrace the challenges I will encounter as I face each new phase of this change within me.
Thank you Laura.

not a good idea for anyone who is a sugar addict

this book should come with a warning that it is not appropriate for anyone who may have a sugar/processed food addiction. it completely derailed me, as I thought, yeah, I can moderate.... I cannot moderate as I am a sugar addict and I must follow an abstinent food plan in order to be free of cravings and compulsive behaviour around food. ideally, nutritionists should always assess their patients for addiction prior to giving any advice to moderate. only then can they be sure that the advice they are giving is not harmful.

Life changing book. Thank you Laura!

This book has genuinely given me such a better perspective on why we need to change how we’re thinking about food, body weight. Etc. I went on my first diet when I was 8 years old and have been on one since. I am now 26 and vowed to never. Diet. Again. Yassss!!!!!!

A book that has it's place

The best part of this book was the poscast with Tally Rye at the end, informative and intresting. one other chapter on nutrition and macros was intresting. Personally I did not take action on the journaling or diary as the author suggested, I just didnt feel the need. maybe this book isn't just for me and my headspace.

Must Read.

I really love Laura Thomas' Instagram page so knew I would love this book. My only tiny issue, as with most BoPo books, is the lack of disability representation, though Laura does cover this a lot more than I've ever seen before which is a step in the right direction.

Great bonus podcast episodes too!

Really recommend

Having just been diagnosed with T2 diabetes I've been bombarded with unsolicited diet and wellness advice. Carbs are now apparently my kryptonite &I can reverse the T2 drinking gallons of bone broth. Ugh. Laura's book cuts thru the bollox and really helps trust back into your body.

I don't need to pay to hear bad language

This self help book has the worst language I have ever heard in this genre. Full of unnecessary expletives. The 'f' word and sh...t being particularly favoured. I didn't get past the first chapter I'm afraid which is a pity because it was something that I wanted to hear.

Very hard to do exercises with audiobook

I love the content of the book and have learned so much. It is however very hard to keep track of assignments as you have to remember where they are or go back to place bookmarks. There is a PDF attached, it would have been amazing if it could have included the various assignments as I really like the content, but I feel that as it is an audio book, I miss out on a lot of the usefulness as it is difficult to find / do the assignments after I've listened to them. After all, audio books are great for being on the go, but it's tricky with this one. It's sad as I think it is a great book and has thought me so much about intuitive eating and disordered eating. I feel like I have to go buy a hard copy of the book for it to be fully useful. Absolute, absolute shame.

A step towards a better future

I've struggled with eating disorders for nearly 15 years and had huge trouble ever even admitting to it until recently. I found this book randomly and decided to give it a try. I do not regret it! I think this a stepping stone for something bigger for me and for others. I have deleted all calorie counting apps and put my scale away. I struggle but I feel a huge shift for better future. Thanks. I recommend this for every woman - not just for the ones who have eating disorders.

Brilliant read/listen. Shame there is no PDF for activities though, try and bookmark or complete as you go. Other than that I think it just might have changed my life!

Interesting and challenged my thinking

Laura comes across as very authentic and with lots of integrity. She is compassionate and understanding whilst also encouraging the reader to re-examine how they are thinking and what they are doing. I decided not to opt for intuitive eating at this time, but still found lots of benefit in the book - her focus on the reader’s choice is one of the many strengths of this book.
