"أفعى يهوذا" هي الجزء الثاني من ثلاثية "على أنهار بابل" التي تمحورت أحداثها حول قصة حقيقية مثيرة لعملية تزوير أثرية كبيرة جرت في إسرائيل في بدايات الألفية الثالثة ثمَّ تبعتها قصّة ساخنة التفاصيل في أجواء غير معهودة للقاريء العربي حيث تدور الأحداث على محورين متوازيين ومتقاطعين رغم الفاصل الزمني بينهما في مملكتي (يهوذا) الجنوبية و(إسرائيل) الشمالية اللتين قامت كلتاهما في قرون سابقة لمولد المسيح في أرض فلسطين.

بطل هذه الرواية هو "إيليا" النبي القديم الذي تحدث على يديه ظواهر ومعجزات كثيرة تجعله عرضة للصراع مع ملك بابل الذي قضى على الهيكل ونكّل باليهود لنرى إيليا يتجدد مرةً أخرى في هذا الجزء بشخصية مصري من اليهود القرائين، حائرٌ بين مصريته ويهوديته في وقت تشهد فيه مصر أحداث كبيرة وتغيرات هائلة بسبب الانتقال من الملكية إلى الجمهورية وسقوط دولة القصر وقيام دولة يوليو عام 1952.

"أفعى يهوذا" ليست مجرّد رواية بل هي دراسة شاملة للتاريخ اعتمدت على الكثير من المصادر الموثوقة والدراسات الخاصة بالتوراة ومجموعة هائلة من الكتب والمراجع المهمة وقد أضفت عليها الحبكة السريعة والأحداث المتشابكة سحرًا خاصًّا يجعلها لا تُنسى بسهولة.
