Publisher's Summary

Yongey Mingyur is one of the most celebrated among the new generation of Tibetan meditation masters, whose teachings have touched people of all faiths around the world. His first book, The Joy of Living, was a New York Times best seller hailed as "compelling, readable, and informed" ( Buddhadharma) and praised by Richard Gere, Lou Reed, and Julian Schnabel for its clarity, wit, and unique insight into the relationship between science and Buddhism.

His new book, Joyful Wisdom, addresses the timely and timeless problem of anxiety in our everyday lives. "From the 2,500-year-old perspective of Buddhism," Yongey Mingyur writes, "every chapter in human history could be described as an 'age of anxiety.' The anxiety we feel now has been part of the human condition for centuries."

So what do we do? Escape or succumb? Both routes inevitably lead to more complications and problems in our lives. "Buddhism," he says, "offers a third option. We can look directly at the disturbing emotions and other problems we experience in our lives as stepping-stones to freedom. Instead of rejecting them or surrendering to them, we can befriend them, working through them to reach an enduring authentic experience of our inherent wisdom, confidence, clarity, and joy."

Divided into three parts like a traditional Buddhist text, Joyful Wisdom identifies the sources of our unease, describes methods of meditation that enable us to transform our experience into deeper insight, and applies these methods to common emotional, physical, and personal problems. The result is a work at once wise, anecdotal, funny, informed, and graced with the author's irresistible charm.

the "translated by..." that is read after every quote is very annoying maybe it would be great in the book and not the audiobook.

A book for your life

This book is for anyone who wants to live a happy life. I'm a translator and I read it as my work. However, while reading the book I understood that there's many things that we may forget in our life. This makes life uneasy for us. So if we live with our consciousness and enjoy the joy of our life, we realize that life is more valuable than we thought.

Thanks a lot for a very good book writing by a very good author.

Life Changing!

I turn this on whenever I stray from the path of loving kindness and empathy. I've gained an incredible sense of self after digesting Youngey Mingyur Rinpoche's knowledge. And its expertly read by Feodor Chin in a way that it patient and gentile. So calming!

Great teacher

The text is fantastic and I only wish Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche had the ability to read this aloud himself. Failing that the performer and technical product could certainly be better. Feodor Chin has surprising difficulty pronouncing all Tibetan names and can't even pronounce Rinpoche correctly which is especially annoying. I'm not even sure he pronounced Mingyur Rinpoche's name correctly. Beyond the Tibetan names and words he has trouble with words like "Regularly," Besides the clumsy and mispronunciations sections of the recording sound like the reader has a cold and his voice becomes annoyingly nasal. Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche teaches some very difficult concepts in a very accessible way.

Marvelous Wisdom, Poorly Delivered

I heard Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche in an interview with Sam Harris. He was funny, whimsical, wise and enjoyable to listen to. On the strength of that interview I bought the Kindle and Audible versions of this book. The content and messaging are strong, providing solid background in Buddhist teachings along with practical application. The reader's performance took all the life out of it. Flat, dull and attempting to be overly meticulous in pronunciation. But the pronunciation of many words is highly questionable when compared to that of other Buddhist and meditation teachers, and Rinpoche himself. If I had not previously heard Rinpoche speak and known of the wisdom he has to share, I probably wouldn't have listened all the way through. The book is well worth reading.

Must Have!

This book is pleasant to listen to and everything you need to know about Buddhism in today's world! Yongey Mingyur is great, he explains the views of Buddhism in a comical yet the point he makes get across. This book creates a mellow mind within a crazy world at times! I truly enjoyed this book!
