بعد روايته الشهيرة "القوقعة" يُتحفنا مصطفى خليفة برقصة القبور هذه حيث تدور أحداثها عبر نصف قرنٍ من الزمان بدءًا من الخمسينيات منتهيةً في عصر الرئيس الأسد الأب في سوريا دون ذكر اسمه.

تبدأ الرواية باعتقال السارد الأساسي في الروايه وبصفته ناشطاً بحزب يتبين من الرواية أنه الحزب الشيوعي، وأنه معتقل ضمن حمله تستهدف الحزب، وأنه المسؤول عن جريدتهم الحزبية السرية...

وهناك يُلاحظ أن إدارة السجن حريصة على حياته… وبعد أكثر من أربعة أشهر سيحضر رئيس البلاد ويهدد المعتقلين بالعقوبة الشديدة إن كرروا أعمالهم ويطلق سراحهم !!

تجربة السجن جمعت البطل بشخصين سيقلبان حياته رأسًا على عقب ميس، الفاتنة المتمرّدة، وعبد السلام، الذي سيسرد على الراوي حياته الغنية بالحب والصراع...

تنتقل بنا هذه الرواية من زنزانة، الى "خلوة"، فإلى سراديب مليئة بالذهب والنقود... وتعرّج على أزمنة تاريخية موسومة بالخلافات والمذابح. لكنها ليست رواية تاريخية بالمعنى المألوف، بل أدى فيها الخيال دورا أساسيا، وسمح لنفسه بأن يستخدم سؤال: "ماذا لو؟"

"رقصة القبور" التاريخ والمستقبل كما يتخيلهما عقل الكاتب وذهن المستمع !!
