About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Two prize-winning economists show how economics, when done right, can help us solve the thorniest social and political problems of our day.

Figuring out how to deal with today's critical economic problems is perhaps the great challenge of our time. Much greater than space travel or perhaps even the next revolutionary medical breakthrough, what is at stake is the whole idea of the good life as we have known it.

Immigration and inequality, globalisation and technological disruption, slowing growth and accelerating climate change - these are sources of great anxiety across the world, from New Delhi and Dakar to Paris and Washington, DC. The resources to address these challenges are there - what we lack are ideas that will help us jump the wall of disagreement and distrust that divides us. If we succeed, history will remember our era with gratitude; if we fail, the potential losses are incalculable.

In this revolutionary audiobook, renowned MIT economists Abhijit V. Banerjee and Esther Duflo take on this challenge, building on cutting-edge research in economics explained with lucidity and grace. Original, provocative, and urgent, Good Economics for Hard Times, read by James Lurie, makes a persuasive case for an intelligent interventionism and a society built on compassion and respect. It is an extraordinary achievement, one that shines a light to help us appreciate and understand our precariously balanced world.

The authors have explained so many concepts in economics very well and how it’s not just for economists but how every one of us must be aware of the economics in the world which helps create a better world.

Gave me a new perspective to see & understand the world differently.

This books primarily focuses on India & U.S and in bit and pieces of ither parts of the world.
As I progressed through the book, the insights and view of the authors were interesting.
There are parts where the authors go into the methodologies which I felt time consuming and could have been optional in the appendix.

Overall its worth reading.

Answers so many paradoxes about economics. Very well researched book with strong arguments on both sides of the fence. Glad I listened to this book. Certainly feel much more well informed about the things that effect us all.

I wouldn't recommend this book to my friends. However, I found it greatly interesting, and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested to take a deep dive into economics.

Dense and compelling

Fascinating account of the impacts of migration on an economy. Also provides a compelling counter-narrative to the Reaganite economics many of us grew up with.

Thought provoking myth buster

Pseudo economics trying to justify left-wing political policies. While some of the stories are interesting, there is way too much subjective rationalisation in this book.

Left-wing Economics Manifesto

the reading experience was good overall. I was hoping for a more explicit mention of solutions and methodology. it seemed to be a recollection of all the studies that the authors conducted.

Promised much more!!
