Publisher's Summary

The war in the Milky Way galaxy is still in its infancy, but the strategy of the enemy is becoming clear...establish footholds no matter the cost, through which other races will then pour in and begin the galactic purge at full force.

The Andromeda galaxy is one of the waypoints to get to the Asferja foothold in the Milky Way Rim. The other is the Jaegger invasion of the massive black holes in the galactic core—none of which it has completely claimed, but the road is now open for a third invading race to arrive whenever they decide to show up. Mak'to'ran cannot completely shut them out, given the planet-sized baseships the Jaeggers have brought with them.

Meanwhile, Paul's mission in Andromeda comes to an end and he must reluctantly return to the Deebees to oversee their critical early development...but on the way back he goes nightcrawler hunting, rescuing the last pieces of the Progarren civilization that the previous Gauntlet War failed to eradicate, as this one is only beginning to escalate.
