Publisher's Summary

A totally gripping and heart-stopping serial-killer thriller

Eeeny meeny, miney, moe. Who lives, who dies, only I know.

When the body of a doctor is discovered brutally murdered in local woodland, Detective Kim Stone is shocked to discover the victim is Gordon Cordell - a man linked to a previous case she worked on involving the death of a young schoolgirl. Gordon has a chequered past, but who would want him dead?

As the investigation gets underway, Gordon’s son is involved in a horrific car crash which leaves him fighting for his life. Kim's sure this was no accident.

Then the body of a woman is found dead in suspicious circumstances and Kim makes a disturbing link between the victims and Russells Hall Hospital. The same hospital where Gordon worked.

With Kim and her team still grieving the loss of one of their own, they’re at their weakest and facing one of the most dangerous serial killers they’ve ever encountered. Everything is on the line. Can Kim keep her squad together and find the killer before he claims his next victim?

The killer is picking off his victims at a terrifying pace, and he’s not finished yet.

From multimillion number-one best seller Angela Marsons comes another absolutely nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat crime thriller.

Kim - she will be good for the Xmas break

The ninth in the series. If ever you wanted a decent book for the holidays all nine of these would be that.

These are very easy reads but with enough depth to make you want more. The main character is unique and the author has the skillsets to flesh this out nicely. This story seemed more tight than usual and was somehow a faster read, however with my using audible l seemed to have a glitch when it jumped and l missed a tiny section just when the truth was being reveled but l soon caught up. I blame the tunnel l go through for this, not the audible system. Naughty tunnel.

Pacey, smooth, interesting.... but honestly would not start my reading with this one, but would race through them all.

Gripping

A gripping story and good character development. The only thing that grates is how angry the narrator makes the characters sound even when they are having a normal conversation.

Stretching Reality

I read the first 9 Kim Stone books in 3 weeks time. While book 8, about the private school culture, is my favorite, I find this book just too much. Too much what? Presenting Kim as an angry, out of control, rude and obnoxious bitch, instead of a professional police officer. The grieving for their downed colleague is over the top, disrupting and hard to read. While some in the series do get out of bounds and confusing in the change-over between cases, this one was like a bowl of spaghetti. At first, I thought each book was an improvement on the last, but now I'm not so sure. I will read #10 & 11 to find out.

I really wanted to like this continuing series...

I’m an avid audio book listener, and I very much gravitate toward this particular genre. I’ve read all the “Kim Stone” books in the series up to this one, and I had intended to throw another Audible credit at the next one. Unfortunately, though, the word that kept coming to mind as this story slogged forward was “tedious.”

The characters seem stuck, only superficially changing throughout the narrative. The storyline quickly became uninspired. I know this sometimes happens when series keep moving forward after promising beginnings. There are several books after this in the series, and perhaps Ms. Marsons is able to again find her way in them. I’ll need to wait a bit before diving into those, however.

The reader is as she has always been. She seems to me to be bit overly dramatic in her presentation, and that didn’t help this book at all. Still, we all listen for certain things in a reader, and I am quite sure my take here is profoundly subjective.

Story is great; narrator, not so much

This series is very entertaining. Great plotting and great characters. The storytelling weaves throughout the other books in the series and it's very satisfying. It definitely deserves a better narrator. This narrator is too affected, uses strange and off tone emphasis, and just doesn't sound plausible. Her character voices are better than the straight narration, but that is so bad it's almost enough to make me want to just read the books instead of listen!

Another winner!

Even though I just read it earlier this year, I re-read the previous book before starting this one. I’m glad I did. I highly recommend not reading this book if you haven’t read Book 8.

This takes place a few weeks after the events in the previous book and the team is dealing with the aftermath. We get to see the investigation of the multiple murders along with the police and the reader has no more clue than the detectives do. Well done.

As always, the team dynamics play a major part in these books. The characters are well developed and interesting. Even the new guy. And the narration is perfect.

I had this pre-ordered and I always look forward to starting a new Kim Stone book but, sadly, each one is over too soon and the wait for the next one begins.

What a relief to find Angela Marsens new book on audible's just released list. Her work is excellent - police procedural, tight, taut, intelligent,
with a few red herrings and surprise twists. Contenporary
British setting, no car chases, no bloody scenes.

moving on

I've listened to the previous books in the series and enjoy the snark and determination of the characters and the one of the narrator. A character was killed off in the previous book and this deals with his replacement and how they work together to solve crimes. While I picked out murderer quickly it was later before the motive came out.

Excellent

One of the best stories yet! Kept me guessing until the end! Narration was generally good, but I feel the narrator didn't quite get it right when voicing some of the dialogue. Woody was often too stern and sometimes too smarmy. Kim was often too harsh, even for her character. Did not put me off though! On to the next now😃

Brilliant story lines

I have been reading all of the Kim Stone novels and this one did not disappoint. Two story lines worked well together. Cant wait to read the next book.
