Publisher's Summary

Kim felt sickness sweep over her as she watched little Grace dust off her dirty hands. Blonde curls tumbled around her face. Then, Grace disappeared into the crowd. Kim wanted to pause the recording, run outside, and grab her to stop what was about to happen.

One August afternoon, eight-year-old Grace Lennard skips into the garden of the childcare center she attends and vanishes into thin air. Rushing to the scene of Grace’s disappearance, Detective Kim Stone finds a chilling piece of evidence: the engraved heart bracelet belonging to Melody Jones - the little girl who was taken from a playground exactly 25 years ago.

Hours before, Steven Harte had walked into Halesowen police station and confessed to having information that would lead Kim to Melody. And he told Kim she’d have a more urgent problem to deal with first. Now Kim must play Steven’s twisted game if she’s to find Grace alive.

With only 24 hours to make every second of Steven’s interrogation count, and scan his behavior for hidden clues, Kim and her team soon link Steven to the abduction of several vulnerable girls - two were kept for a year and then released, unharmed - but where are Melody and the others?

Then small bones are discovered in the grounds of a local park, and Kim fears the worst.

Kim may think she’s close to convicting a killer, but the case is about to get even more complex. Steven is hiding one final explosive truth, and he’s not the only one. Dr. Alex Thorne - the evil woman Kim did her best to keep behind bars is about to reveal a shocking secret to Kim that will hit her where it hurts the most. Kim knows she must put aside her own demons to save Grace and find the other missing girls in time. But can Kim untangle Steven’s web before any more innocent lives are lost?

An edge-of-your-seat thriller that will leave your heart in your mouth. You will be totally hooked on the utterly addictive, number one, multimillion-copy best-selling Detective Kim Stone series.

Get rid of Alex Thorn

This was going along alright as a story until Alex Thorn appears, absolute rubbish storyline. Just kill her off . The rest of the story was ok if a little predictable. Does this means there is more Alex Thorn to come let’s hope its to finish her off

Great central story

The central story was very good and made up about 90% of the book and I would highly recommend it, however arch nemesis Alex Thorn is extremely annoying and best described as a poor man’s Moriarty. I really hope Angela drops that story line as I think I would have to give any future books containing it a miss.

Keeps getting better

This authors books are so easy to read (or listen to) and seem to be finished in no time. This one is, for me, a really good read. Clever story with the series continued story (spine of the book) a bit more fleshed out this time. Cant wait for the next one!!

I am so sorry Angela. I am still your biggest fan.

So sad to give this book 3 star because Angela is one of my favorite mystery writers and I can't wait for each new release.

I love her books. I also love Angela because she treats her readers like a community and will actually respond to messages, which is lovely and so unheard of.

Do not start your journey in this series from this book....or maybe start here but know the rest are so much better.

I read all the books in this series and this one was not my favorite. First of all, usually there is more team releated stories, which are bonding opportunities, allowing reader to feel like they are part of Kim's team. Thats one of my favorite parts about this series, feeling like I am there part of the team being verbally abused by Kim. What can I say I have issues lol. This book bases all the characters story lines on past books and it is hard to care about anyone. Or maybe I should say there is no opportunity to care.

I also agree with the other reviewer that Alex Thorne, evil psychiatrist, must be killed off or permanently handicapped....Maybe she can die immediately in car crash and Kim can investigate her death? She must have made more than one enemy so that will be an interesting story. Or maybe she can face someone more psychopathic than her who will outsmart her and bury her alive in the woods, she will go crazy and finish in mental hospital with Kims mom, so kim will never know who died whem she get the call?? Point is we need a new vixen. She became predictable and boring and its hard to care about her.

Tracy Frost, I missed you so much. You are such a great unofficial addition to the team.

Tracy was mentioned in one paragraph so if you do not know who she is yet again great opportunity to catch up.

Bryant who is usually a support character felt omitted and in all honesty I even missed Kim's dog.

Overall story line was very very unlikely to play out as it did so it was hard to be interested in it.

If someone does not want to read the entire series but wants to read future books, this book maybe a good starting point. It has a lot of refernces to all the other story lines. At least 3 references to Mikey. I feel traumatized by that event at this point lol.

I feel empty, and disappointed, and need to recover from this trauma before next book. I know Angela will turn it around.

Audio: As always love the narrator.

A stunning twist!

It’s the 25th anniversary of the day 7-year old Melody Jones was abducted and never seen again. Wealthy businessman and philanthropist Steven Harte presents himself at the police precinct of DI Kim Stone and declares he has information related to her abduction. Hours later, 8-year old Grace Lennard is abducted from her day care and there’s evidence that she’s been taken by the same person who took Melody. Meanwhile, the evil psychologist from hell known as Dr. Alexandra (Alex) Thorne, is scheming to be recommended for release at her upcoming parole hearing. It’s all enough to provide Kim and her team many sleepless nights as they work to find Grace.

I’m always nervous when I read stories involving child abductions and nothing about this one gave me relief. Add Alex Thorne to the mix and it is a heartburn brew. Steven Harte was a perplexing issue throughout as I couldn’t decide if he was guilty or not, though he was certainly involved in some manner. I loved the procedurals in this story as Kim’s team, including profiler Alison Lowe, are top notch as usual, moving the investigation along at breakneck speed.

Without saying much more, this was a baffling case that had one stunner of a twist. The secondary plot (though it is equally weighted) involving Alex just raised my ire. Everything about it annoyed me but I’m certain that’s what the author intended. I’m now highly invested in the next release in this series. I can’t believe I’ve caught up and don’t have another book waiting in the wings for next month. I’ll be spending a precious Audible credit when it’s ready because the narrator is the voice in my head for these characters and the storytelling. She’s that good and I’ll always listen to this series because of her consistently outstanding performances.

Great continuation *Some Spoilers*

I have no idea what the few negative reviews are about. I’ve read all the books in this series; they’ve all been great.

This one wasn’t the most team-focused(as far as their personal side stories) but I don’t see that as a bad thing. Some in the series are like that.

I love that you get to see this team really hitting its stride together. They have a familiar shorthand that is comfortable.

I also disagree with some reviewers about being tired of Alex. Yes, she is annoying, but Kim is so tough that anyone who can meet her obstinance is likely to figure into the series throughout.
Alex:Stone as Moriarty:Holmes. They’re well matched. Although, I wouldn’t mind Tracey Frost doing some investigating and reporting on Alex…

Two things that did irritate me - where’s Betty?!?! (I think that’s the name of the plant) And why do we not hear about any member of the team going to check up on Kevin’s family? Seems like one of them would stop in from time to time…

Love Kim Stone series

I love these books and the characters. Plots are well thought out with enough surprises to keep them interesting. Ms. Marsons does her homework acquiring medical information and police procedure. Jan Cramer is the absolute best narrator. She makes all the characters come alive with their different voices. Can't wait for Number 16!!

There is noone like Kim Stone

I can't describe how much I enjoy Kim Stone. Jan Cramer is incredible, giving everyone their unique voice so that's i don't even need to hear who said what! I would love for Kim Stone to get her own TV show. there is noone like her. Strong, Sweet, Cold, Inteligent, humble just the definition of a strong female lead. and the rest of the team and antagonists are just as strong!

Very good book

I really enjoyed this book a lot. The story was riveting and extremely interesting. Most of the book I never knew what was going to happen next. And had a couple of good twist ending kind of was predictable. I recommend anyone Who enjoys Kim stone to read this book also.

So Good

I always enjoy the Kim Stone books and this is no exception. I did not see the ending coming. The twist was amazingly clever. Not fond of Alex being out of prison as it then is set up like a Sherlock Holmes versus Moriarty but will see how it goes.

Quality of this series just constantly keeps improving.

Wow 15 books into the series and the quality still improves massively. On each new book i’m thinking surely this series can’t get any better but every time i am proved wrong. Best book in the series and i had no idea how things were going to turn out. There are not many long series i read where the quality improves with every new book. Looking forward to the next one already. Kim and her team work well together and with each new book we are now seeing the other members of the teams individual talents starting to really show. We also have a fantastic group of regular supporting characters who regularly help or hinder the teams efforts.

Love all the books in the series but this one is totally unbelievable, a man goes in and alludes he knows about a crime but they can't arrest him and according to the other officers he's "done a lot for charity" so he's innocent ...

*Heartbreaking & Fascinating*

Kim and her team (DS Bryant, DS Penn, Dc Stacey Wood) find themselves working an unusual case. There is missing 8 year old girl Grace, this is bad enough, because prior to her disappearance a potential suspect Steven Harte who is a well known businessman, claims to have information about a young girl who disappeared 25 years ago.

Because of his status her DCI will only agree to her questioning him for 24hrs. Kim and her team need to make the every moment count. He seems to be playing a game with them and through frustration Kim calls in behaviourist Alison to help them advance in the case. They leave him in the interview room and the team including Alison study his behaviour.

Every piece of information Steven gives is on his terms and Kim does not like this one bit and to behave in a different way as advised by Alison goes against the grain. The more they dig into him the murkier the case gets. Including digging for bodies.

Eventually he lawyers up and things start to get darker. When Kim changes the rules of his sick game by taking charge things take a shocking turn.

Throw into the mix Kim’s old adversity and sociopath Alex Thorne who is still baiting her from prison can Kim and her team finally put the pieces together to save the life of the latest young girl, before it’s too late….

It's here at last and it's a corker!!!

These books are a cut above and the narrator is as excellent as ever. You become emotionally invested in the team and it adds to the drama book after book.
