Critic Reviews

"Narrator Clare Corbett flawlessly creates the accents and setting of Lenchester, England, while introducing Detective Chief Inspector Whitney Walker and her polar opposite, psychologist Georgina Cavendish.... Corbett's best creation is pathologist Clare Dexter whose eccentricities add a bit of levity. The well-rendered step-by-step procedural, with its gripping conclusion, makes for an exceptional listen." (AudioFile Magazine, review of Cavendish & Walker)

Excellent

Throughly enjoyed this book. Storyline was excellent against with twists and turns and the truth about the killer only revealed in the last chapter. Sadly the next book is not included in my membership so I will have to wait for the next instalment.

Where does your moral compass point?

Disturbing and unfortunately topical subject matter but interaction of the two main characters was great. Will read on in the series.

Difficult subject matter

This was a story it's hard to say I enjoyed as the subject matter is so disturbing, but really like the characters and the narrator bringing them to life

clumsy

the research into this matter was clearly superficial. character motivation was plain and not insightful. phrase repetition was very annoying so was the constant reminder of the characters point of view, which didn't go past "all pedophiles deserve to die an agonizing death" and the casual but constant agreement that it's kind of ok to torture people who had it coming. sexual abuse has very complex impact on victims which wasn't reflected in the book at all. every victim and perpetrator had the same nature, generalising the subject instead of making it something personal. the good performance of the narrator couldn't save the book from being close to unbearable. I'm glad I didn't have to waste a credit on it.

Enjoyable read

I like the characters and their relationship but stories are short and a big too predictable or simple.
