The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

Publisher's Summary
One of the genre's favorite pair return in a classic fantasy short for both Riyria veterans and first-time readers.
Several years have past since the war-weary mercenary Hadrian and cynical ex-assassin Royce joined forces to start their thieves-for-hire organization better known as Riyria. Things have gone well enough for the team as they do "jobs" for various nobles throughout Elan. Usually, that means stealing something, but when a young heiress asks them to steal her…well, that's a first for the pair. All is not as it seems, but Royce is determined to get the bottom of what's actually going on. After all, he has his professional integrity at stake.
Originally released in the Blackguards anthology published by Ragnarok Publications, this is a standalone short story of 10,800 words. No prior knowledge of The Riyria Revelations or The Riyria Chronicles is required to enjoy it to its fullest, making this a perfect introduction for new readers or a chance for existing fans to spend a little more time with old friends.

I love ALL the Riyria stories and Royce and Hadrian are my all time two favorite "fantasy" characters. I love the dry humor and situations they find themselves in. Even though this was a short story, it had a great plot and interesting characters.

Entertaining short story from the enjoyable Riyria Chronicles. Not as good as the novels (I am a big fan of the novels), but well-worth a listen. Only downside (and this is totally subjective, and possibly over 'picky'), is I found the narrator's voice for Kristin a little grating.

Fun characters fantasy setting unexpected ending.
What did you like most about FREE: Professional Integrity (A Riyria Chronicles Tale)?
I really enjoyed the unexpected ending of the story.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Unfortunetly, I didn't have one favourite character, I had two. Hadrian and Royce. I always enjoyed their banter and the fact that each of them were so different and at the same time worked well with each other.
What does Tim Gerard Reynolds bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
He brings life to the characters. Through his naration I could here Royce's sarcasm, Hadrian's earnestness and at times I laughed outloud because of the dry way Tim Gerard Reynolds described certain scenes. Yes if I did read the books I would probably be able to hear those character's voices in my head, but because of the narration Tim Gerard Reynolds provided I had good excuse to laugh outloud without the people on the train thinking I'm crazy
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There was a scene, which wasn't exactly moving, but it was quite ironic. Near the end when the Father is lamenting the los of his daughter and then of course things turn out differently.
Any additional comments?
if you like the Riyria series and you want a light reading snack something to occupy your time for about an hour you should pick this short story up.
