A fresh, challenging and compassionate response to busyness, based on the way of life Jesus offered his disciples. Who are you becoming? That was the question nagging pastor and author John Mark Comer. By outward metrics, everything appeared successful. But inwardly, things weren't pretty. So he turned to a trusted mentor for guidance and heard these words: 'Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life.' It wasn't the response he expected, but it continues to be the answer he needs.

During our chaotic times, discover five forgotten values that can spark internal growth and help us reconcile our Christian faith with the complexities of race, sexuality, and social justice. Most believers live in the state of "being a Christian" without ever being deeply formed by Christ. Our pace is too frenetic to be in union with God, and we don't know how to quiet our hearts and minds to be present. Our emotions are unhealthy and compartmentalized.

Publisher's Summary
In this revised best-selling book, Peter Scazzero outlines a road map for discipleship with Jesus that is powerfully transformative. He unveils what's wrong with our current definition of "spiritual growth" and offers not only a model of spirituality that actually works, but seven steps to change that will help you experience authentic faith and hunger for God.
Peter Scazzero learned the hard way: You can't be spiritually mature while remaining emotionally immature. Even though he was the pastor of a growing church, he did what most people do:
- Avoid conflict in the name of Christianity.
- Ignore his anger, sadness, and fear.
- Use God to run from God.
- Live without boundaries.
Eventually God awakened him to a biblical integration of emotional health and the spiritual practice of slowing down and quieting your life for to experience a firsthand relationship with Jesus. It created nothing short of a spiritual revolution in Scazzero, in his church, and now in thousands of other churches.
In this updated edition, Scazzero shares new stories and principles as he outlines his journey and the signs of emotionally unhealthy spirituality. Then he provides seven biblical, reality-tested ways to break through to the revolutionary life Christ meant for you.

Good one but
This is a great book that every Christian and mostly ministry members should read. In some chapters I felt like I was reading a Yoga or Hinduism book. The author definitely has some influence from those but overall is a good read with many useful tools.

I really grew emotionally more mature
I read this book as part of book club, a chapter per week. This was a good pace, and it helped me really talk/work through the things discussed.
The book stimulated real growth for me emotionally, in areas where I had tried to get breakthrough. Even if I didn’t grasp or address every point, the concepts spurred on better thought processes and better behavior choices.
I look at others and myself in a more mature way. Even my husband says in the past 10 weeks he can see a great growth.
