About this listen

The blood scent was fresh. Hunger ached in her belly. The lioness slid forward as close as she dared. The little boy seconds away from death was two, maybe three years old. He was lost in the vast, heat-soaked sand that was the Kalahari desert... Toddler Alex Theron is miraculously rescued by a passing clan of Kalahari bushmen. Over the ensuing years the desert draws him back, for it hides a beautiful secret... diamonds. But nothing comes easily from within this turbulent continent and before Alex can even hope to realise his dreams he will lose his mind to love and fight a bitter enemy.©1997 Beverley Harper (P)1999 Bolinda Publishing Contemporary Fiction Genre Fiction

Story line was good . A bit of a slow start but a few chapters in it got my interest and held it until the end. I would recommend this read.

A good read

I read and enjoyed all of Beverley Harper's African series of books some years ago although this one was my least favourite so I shouldn't be surprised as to why I didn't enjoy it as much. I guess I hoped that listening to the story I would've pick up more passion and compassion. I loved the first half of the book but it lost me during the second half. The narration was quite good but I did find his attempts at the female voices a little annoying and "whiney" which may have been part of the reason I wasn't as involved during the latter half of the story.

Not sure why this didn't live up to expectation...
