Publisher's Summary

Walk. Scavenge. Destroy. Trade. A simple cycle that's suited Ronin for 185 years. With no clear grasp of his programming, the barren wasteland known as The Dust offers him purpose, a place where his armored undercasing, amped-up processors, and advanced optics can be put to use. The ramshackle towns on the edges of the waste serve merely as resupply stations between increasingly long treks. But one night - one human woman - makes him question everything.

Lara Brooks struggles to survive under the strict rules imposed by the bots in Cheyenne. With her sister missing, she's been on her own for weeks and fears the worst. Her only hope comes from Ronin, a bot she catches spying on her. He promises to provide for Lara and search for her sister. All she has to do is dance. It should be easy; she's done it before. But the longer she spends with Ronin, the harder it is to see him as just another bot.

In a city where humans are relegated to live in squalor, Ronin discovers a threat greater than any in the Dust - Warlord, Cheyenne's tyrannical leader. When Ronin ignores the rules, he unwittingly puts Lara in danger. Warlord is as intolerant of disrespect as he is of mankind.

Contains mature themes.

***Heartbreaking***

Omg I cried when this book ended, it's so very sad and sweet and romantic. I can't express how much this book touched me deeply, it just made me realised how precious life and your loved ones are. I loved this book so much and I would have preferred a different ending though. The narratives are excellent thanks Hollie Jackson and Ryan Turner.

AI dystopian romance with HEA

Humans made bots who eventually took over after a major war. Now the world is a dystopia. Lara Brooks is struggling to live in a bot controlled territory (called Cheyenne) by a heartless ruler Dust/Warlord. Ronin, a bot with human characteristics, finds and takes in Lara. This is their story; Ronin and Lara's (mature themes). It ends with a HEA and a few tears. The narrator's are not my favorite, but I still made it through without hating them.

keeps you enthralled..

This story held me from the first chapter. by the end I was near tears. it's not often you read a book that makes you feel the characters and you feel for them like real people. This is a tear jerker so be prepared! Well worth the read tho!

So many feels - ALL the feels

I wasn't really sure what to expect when I started this book, but just to be clear, it's not some lighthearted sci-fi romance. This is a real distopian sci-fi with deep themes about the nature of life and emotions. It was really, really dark in places, as any good post-apocalyptic dystopian story is, but the hope and the love shared by Ronin and Lara tempered the darkness and kept it from being bleak. It was epic and heart wrenching and full of action and tension. I loved both the characters. Lara was strong, full of fortitude despite the way life kept kicking her when she was down. Ronin's journey to find his meaning in life, and understand his connection to Lara and his own emotions, was moving and very relatable. He might have been a "bot" but I never questioned his humanity. The ending of the book was super satisfying, if a bit bittersweet, and made me teary-eyed. I really felt like I ran the gamut of feels with this book, and it's the sort of story that will linger with you afterwards. I've read most of the books Tiffany Roberts has written and she's definitely one of my favorite romance novelists, and I hope more of her books get released on audiobook.

Blah

The story is slow and doesn’t show any signs of picking up. The male narrator is sopheric. It is also just impossible to find get into the world just cannot get past that full robots have a sexual interest in humans. Ok I can see sex bots but regular robots which engineer would put a working penis on it?? What are they supposed to use for cum. Oil?

mixed feelings

The story line was fantastic, the main female character not so much. I have an issue with dumb female leads. She wasn't what I would call headstrong, it was more stubborn and crass. The way she blew up ever chance she got that started to get very frustrating. Several times I wanted to just stop listening because of her attitude problem. Lots of eye rolling coming from my end.

Can’t finish it

When I read the reviews for this, I thought I’d finally found the unicorn or fantasy romance novels - something well-written and not just a formula romance. It starts out intriguing set in a dystopian world. There were some interesting ideas, but also some glaring things that made no sense. After awhile, it seemed like the world building is more stage dressing for the romance than a real attempt at world building. A couple of hours into the the story it starts slipping into the typical romance formula of spunky heroine who is rescued by a man. I thought Laura was a petulant brat which wouldn’t make much sense given the world and her story. Ronin is more intriguing and set in a decently written story could be an interesting character. I was mildly curious to see what would happen in this world so I kept listening, but with 7.5 hours to go I just can’t bear anymore of this drivel. I won’t be buying anything else by this husband / wife writing team.

Pleasantly Surprised! One of my favorite reads.

I downloaded Dustwaker on a whim after hearing about the author, Tiffany Roberts, on a book vlog. Normally, I’m not that keen on robotic science fiction romance so I didn’t think I would get into the story much. This book was a more than pleasant surprise! The world building, character development and romance are all on point with this one! Even though the fact the hero is a robot is essential to the plot, I wasn’t off put by it at all. I am sooo glad I gave this book a chance and can’t wait to read others by this author.

Absolutely loved this book.

Amazing book that had me laughing and weeping. I don't think an ending has ever hit me so hard before. Brilliant!
