Publisher's Summary

A world on the precipice of the apocalypse. A secret forged in the flames of war. A chance to start over.

For John Sutton, only one of those three things matters.

Retired from a decade of brutal war, he wants nothing more than a quiet pastoral life while he does his best to stem the steady increase of his Doom Points before they hit 100, signaling the start of the end.

He’s been given a small farm on the outskirts of the empire as thanks for his service, but no matter how far he travels, it's impossible to escape the war's devastating effects on the world.

Bandits, suspicious townsfolk, a mysterious pair of siblings, and a secret that lurks in the mountains all threaten John’s peace. It will take all of his considerable power to keep from burning everything to the ground.

Don't miss the start of the next great Fantasy LitRPG Series by Seth Ring, author of Nova Terra. Pre-order your copy today and explore a world whose secrets have been buried under decades of war.

About the Series: Mixing slice-of-life with epic fantasy action, mystery, magic, cultivation, and a broken game system that seems determined to make everything as hard as possible for the already overpowered protagonist, this LitRPG/GameLit series is perfect for those who enjoy exploring rich worlds and complex characters.

Interesting.

I fought listening to this book as I thought the heading battle mage Farmer was terrible!
I’m glad I bought it, great story. Seth is an amazing writer, this is the second book of his I’ve read and he does not disappoint. 😀

Mediocre.

Suggested by friend. Unfortunately, after a couple of hours, it was still lackluster and dull.

Surprisingly enthralling

I wouldn’t have expected to enjoy the farming theme - despite choosing it with the obvious title - but I couldn’t put it down. Thoroughly loved the pace, place and characters. Straight on to the next one for me.

Good performance ok story

Found it hard to relate to the MC, they are supposed to be some tired war torn veteran but has god like powers. They prefer to let trouble build around them ultimately causing more harm than just nipping it in the bud. A veteran should have learnt the issue of letting enemies roam free.
You learn very little of the world and most of the repurcusions for actions are supposed to be very serious but feel pointless. Even one of the main villains should be easily dealt with but is instead allowed to cause trouble, because why not.

More realism and fantasy than a litrpg.

Adults making rational descions and letting peoples actions speak for them. Good story and characters that remained interesting as they became more fleshed out.
Narration starts out pretty slow but matches the pace of the story. The action scenes fast pace makes the thrills all that much greater.
I dont know where the series will go but I know I am interested in more.

Enjoyable

It was an enjoyable read and the audio was the icying on the cake. The whole idea of a war torn veteran just wanting to settle down and live a peaceful life is always a draw card for me and this story and the audio just fit nicely into what I like to read. It was nice to read about a MC who wasn't a teenage proteg'e of some store for a Change and I will probably read and listen to the Next book in this series.
