About this listen

From the best-selling and award-winning 'master of the spy thriller' comes a collection of riveting short stories.

When a man's wife leaves him under suspicious circumstances, he sets off in search for her, unprepared for the guilty secrets he's about to drag back into the light.

A man is tempted by a luxury apartment with a top-of-the-range kitchen. But there is a heavy price to pay for this glamorous new life.

And a couple with their marriage on the rocks go on a hike through the Derbyshire countryside as another way to avoid their real problems.

Hailed as the master of the modern spy thriller, Mick Herron's skill for tension, humour and memorable twists are captured in his short stories, collected here for the first time.

I am normally disappointed with short stories because they lack to length to develop character even when they deal with existing ones as some of these do. However, there isn’t one of these that did not take me in totally the wrong direction at some stage either in plot or character.

Highly recommended

Master of the twist ending

While I enjoyed the stories they were totally ruined by the narration (except Sean Barrett), I can't understand the production decision to use the other three narrators but it's not worth listening to. Don't waste your time and money.

Good stories, terrible narration

Narrators (aside from Sean Barrett who is, as always, first class) absolutely ruined this production.

Spoiled
