Publisher's Summary

Quinn Alexander has committed an unthinkable crime.

To avoid spending her life in prison, Quinn makes a run for it. She leaves behind her home, her job, and her family. She grabs her passport and heads for the northern border before the police can discover what she's done.

But when an unexpected snowstorm forces her off the road, Quinn must take refuge at the broken-down, isolated Baxter Motel. The handsome and kindly owner, Nick Baxter, is only too happy to offer her a cheap room for the night.

Unfortunately, the Baxter Motel isn't the quiet safe haven it seemed to be. The motel has a dark and disturbing past. And in the dilapidated house across the way, the silhouette of Nick's ailing wife is always at the window. Always watching.

In the morning, Quinn must leave the motel. She'll pack up her belongings and get back on the road to freedom.

But first, she must survive the night.

Great plot twists!

Good plot twists however I found it very difficult to focus on the story due the not so great narration.
The main narrator made the characters sound like they were elderly or toddlers (overly exaggerated voice acting). One character, Rob sounded like he was suffering from a terrible sore throat/disease. The main narrator may be best suited to narrating childrens books. I couldn't wait to get to the second narrator, who was a lot better.
Back to the story. I enjoyed the Psycho meets Rear Window vibes and the several plot twists (some predictable) along the way.

It was not as capturing and shocking as her other books.

This book was wasy to listen to, a little hard to get invested in the characters. Also the plot twist was not as exciting as some of her other books.

Great book

Lots of twist and turns with the characters in this book, lots of suspense. I really enjoyed it. Will be listening to more of Freida Books.

Farfetched story and grating narration

Definitely not one of Freida’s better stories. The characters are all incredibly shallow, unbelievable and dramatic. The twists are meh, gratuitous even.
The story wasn’t helped by the narrator, who half the time sounded like she was talking through a sock puppet, and the other half like she was about to burst into tears.

Twists and turns and secrets oh my!

Engaging and paced well.
I wasn't surprised by Greta.
It would have been nice to see what happened to Rob after everything.

Narration too a while to get used to

Found the voices hard to get used to - I haaaate baby talk or little girl voices, so it took a few attempts to get into the sorry. Once I did get into it I really enjoyed it.

Disappointing.

I have read quite a few of this author's books and loved them, but I found this one didn't have much substance.

Solid thriller from a great author

The author tells a good, if not entirely credible, story using different perspectives. The end result is neatly explained in a very satisfying epilogue. It’s hard to review without spoilers but I will say I found the old switcheroo hard to swallow, but it made for a good solution to the whole plot,

Good not great

The narrator was not bad, took me a while to realise they meant “masseuse” when they were saying “ma-suz”. Thought the male voices were something out of the Simpsons.
Story was interesting enough to finish but not something I would read again.
