Publisher's Summary

Not every human, elf, or dwarf could be equally important to me - that's a fact I accepted long ago. I was here to serve my role and help end this war, not to achieve world peace or save mankind. It was so that I could someday lead a comfortable and happy life with the people I loved and cared for.

Arthur Leywin has experienced two lifetimes of challenge and adventure. He has lived as a swordsman, a mage, an adventurer, and a king. Now his two lives, old and new, will collide, revealing the connection between King Grey and Arthur Leywin, but at what cost?

How will this affect the ongoing war between the nations of Alacrya and Dicathen? Enemy forces threaten the coastal cities, the elven forests, and the fortified mountain passes. Dicathen’s most powerful allies have vanished, and the military alliance between men, elves, and dwarves threatens collapse. Arthur may be the last hope for his people, but when forced to choose between family and country, where will his loyalty lie?

Monotonous

Battle after battle, debate after debate, flashback after flashback. They were good and interesting in the first few books, but this is the sixth book. I want something new and interesting. I couldn't listen to a single chapter all the way through.

good read still

Really good book, but this whole story just keeps feeling like an anime where each phase of the main characters strength has reached like infinite, but then an infinite strength +1 bad guy comes along and bears the shiz outa him. So then he goes infinite strength +2 but then infinite strength +5 comes along, and so on.

Disappointing as hell.

Really enjoyed the first few books but this one has me seriously considering dropping it here. The continuum in the book is utter garbage; Arthur has become a frequently disappointing, narrow minded buffoon that charges head first into easily apparent Ls at every opportunity he can find, just so he can brood some more about decisions/mistakes which he clearly appears to be making no discernible effort to actually learn from. Also somehow he's become an amazing military strategist despite have no prior experience in war(as war was abolished in favor of duels in his original life) and displaying no aptitude for any type of higher reasoning in this life, outside of his own personal combat prowess.

The overused tropes which the author frequently relies on to add a consistently snowballing sense of foreboding and dread throughout this book has become tedious and exhausting. Honestly, without the near flawless narration from Travis Baldree, there was many times where I could have easily dropped the entire series midway through this book.

The title is quite fitting, the story has experienced a divergence into an unfulfilling and dreary slog.

love the series, characters making dumb decisions

Pros
overall story is still interesting, and great world building, and likeable and interesting characters.

Cons
- I can understand Tess making childish decisions (many childish decisions), but Arthur, with 2 lives under his belt made many dumb emotional decisions that had bad consequences.

- Pacing felt slow and disjointed due to the flash backs. I honestly wasn't interested in Arthur's past.

Feels like the story should be finished already

Doom and gloom is the theme of this story. Sadly what started out really good with the first as t few books has led to this. If your a massive fan I would recommend listening to this book but this is the last one for me. Good effort but not for me any more
