Publisher's Summary

A new world. A thousand threats. Welcome to The Continent.

Felix's life on Earth had become a series of dead-end jobs, ruined relationships, and rotating apartments smaller than most postage stamps. By all accounts, even his own, he was a coward. Too afraid to move forward, to take risks. Yet when given the chance to choose between risking his life or walking away from a deadly encounter, he didn't hesitate.

Moments before his untimely demise, Felix was snatched from earth and thrust into a magical world known only as "The Continent". Empowered by the "System", he learns that he can strengthen himself through combat and dedication. To survive, he'll have to push himself beyond his limits, or else fall to the monsters all around him.

Levels, stats, and magic. Death is the start of a terrible fate, but if he lives...no one knows what he will become.

Fantastic book

I really enjoyed it, a really good book. The updates on his stats and the powers he develops are really cool. A damn good listen. You can tell that the author begins to really find his feet towards the bed of the book as well.

No central plot

I have tried to get through this one three times now and I just can’t make it. The book lacks a central compelling storyline. The MC is dropped into a new world, then we proceed to just watch him develop slowly without any real sense of a driving story. It’s actually quite bizarre. Hundreds of books down and I have never come across anything quite like it. Travis Baldree is obviously great, but even he couldn’t keep this one afloat.

Banger

Solid book. Could skip some repeated descriptions but otherwise enjoyable. it's action packed and takes a different approach to skills and titles than other similar book series.

Gave up at book 4

After reading primal hunter and he WHO fights with mosters, this book where a bit of a letdown unfortunately. 1. The first half of the first book was annoying at, but it gets better. 2. The main character is a bit plain. 3. Too much fighting and little character development. This book ain't shit, but is no more than a solid 4 star.

Mixed feelings

I think this book would be a great introduction to litrpg, but unfortunately this is my 5th series and already have listened to amazing books like "dungeon crawler Carl", this book just doesn’t quite hit the mark for me.

I do think it’s an ok read, just a little tedious sometimes being almost nonstop action. Doesn’t really get good until the MC meets up with others and that doesn’t happen till well after chapter 20 if I remember correctly. I probably will get book 2 to see if it gets better, but I’m going to give it a little break for now

Quantity over Quality

The series suffers from rather amateur 'fanfiction' tier writing, but there's a lot of it. Being narrated by the illustrious Travis Baldree makes it hard to argue with the value. At least if all you're looking for is a litrpg, OP MC guilty pleasure.

Do not go into this series expecting character progression, development or any real depth; especially after the first book. What you'll find in this book is an endless battle following all the litrpg/fantasy tropes and nothing more. The MC bounces from one battle to the next so quickly they often blend together. Whenever one threat is removed the next has to be immediately introduced, as if the Author's scared you'll get bored. When everything has to be climactic; nothing is climactic.

Same great narrator as Steelheart, great story

Easy to listen to, more importantly, easy to get into. It takes a level of active listening to memorise/comprehend stat gains, but the narrator handles this exceptionally well for an audiobook. The story kicks ass and I'm very happy it's a series.

A slog to ensure

I am a big fan of Travis and he did a great job however the constant and length stat updates made this book painful to endure and endless battles and blunders had me wishing for some positive notes that never materialised.

Loved It!

I really enjoyed the narrator, the story and the different characters. The stat summaries were done very concisely as well!
