Fandor war speiübel. Er kniete in der Mitte der grässlich langen Brücke und überlegte, ob er lieber mit geschlossenen Augen weiterkriechen sollte oder mit geöffneten.
Der Sturm schaukelte die Brücke wie ein Blatt im Wind, und der Regen hatte die Holzplanken so glitschig gemacht, dass er einmal ausrutschte und beinahe durch die große Öffnung zwischen den Bohlen gefallen wäre. Er keuchte.Wasser lief ihm in die Augen, aber er wagte nicht, die Halteseile loszulassen, um sich den Regen aus den Augenwinkeln zu wischen. Er zwinkerte heftig. Der Erfolg war gleich null.
