That is, until Emily Nagoski’s Come As You Are, which used groundbreaking science and research to prove that the most important factor in creating and sustaining a sex life filled with confidence and joy is not what the parts are or how they’re organized but how you feel about them.

Since Darwin's day, we've been told that sexual monogamy comes naturally to our species. Mainstream science - as well as religious and cultural institutions - has maintained that men and women evolved in families in which a man's possessions and protection were exchanged for a woman's fertility and fidelity. But this narrative is collapsing....

Story
Iconic couples' therapist and best-selling author Esther Perel returns with a provocative look at relationships through the lens of infidelity, providing the insight we so desperately need to help us move beyond a simplistic discussion. An affair: it can rob a couple of their relationship, their happiness, their very identity. Adultery has existed since marriage was invented, and so, too, have the prohibitions against it - in fact adultery has a tenacity that marriage can only envy.

Publisher's Summary
Contemporary relationships are in a state of rapid evolution. These changes can and should empower people with the opportunity to develop partnerships based on their own sexualities, understandings, and agreements. This makes it possible to create what Kenneth Haslam, founder of the Kinsey Institute's Polyamory Archive, has called designer relationships. The possibilities are limitless, and thinking about a partnership as something people can craft allows for flexibility and change. Relationships can open and close or have varying degrees and kinds of openness as circumstances demand. In the context of a designer relationship, decisions are made mutually, consciously, and deliberately. Best-selling authors and relationship experts Patricia Johnson and Mark A. Michaels are exemplars of this life choice, and have studied polyamory for over 20 years.

A good primer for anyone to listen to :)
A useful introduction to a broader range of relationship possibilities and a good way to begin reframing the way you see and approach relationships in a less rigid way that could prevent many misconceptions that doom relationships to excess drama and even failure right from the start.

well written, but overpriced
I bought this on 1 credit, I don't think it's worth 24 for being as short as it is. I think it is worth the listen if you want something concise and broad for considering alternatives to normative-nuclear-sexual-and-emotional-monogamy. I would recommend the Ethical Slut over this if you have a vague idea of polyamory already and want something more thorough.

Clear straightforward enlightening
The fear of judgment, the worry about acceptance, are elevated with the knowledge shared in this book.
The authors give excellent modern guidance on a way of being happy in the relationships you have, whatever your definition.

Not a bad read on conducting better relationships
I was expecting something a bit more "do's and don'ts," but this book was equally informative in it's stand offish approach if dispelling misinformation and generally advocating a more respectful and understanding treatment of your relationship partner(s)
