The subjected matter of this book was fascinating but is continuously peppered with a political bent taking aim at colonialism amongst other things as if that wasn’t just a part of man’s true nature and the unpleasant truth of how we got where we are. Any ardent student of history realises that conquest for territory and resources has been part of our being since day one. Constant referencing to the blight of ‘whitemen’, eventually made me cringe at every mention and ultimately undermined what was an amazing story of the shadow world beneath the waves.
