Bring out the rest of the stories ASAP!

My favorite Commisar. The narrator(s) really bring the stories to life. I can't wait for the rest of the series to come out.

Warhammer's most Heroic Coward!

I had stared at the Cain audiodramas for a few years before finally buying one. I love the Warhammer setting and I have to say I loved this story. Cain is a lazy self serving coward, but he's smart enough to know that sometimes it's in one's self interest to do what has to be done. It's just that he'll try every other option first. In a way it reminds me of Churchill's quote about America. And even though he tries everything to avoid it, when the chips are down, he is the hero people think he is. This tale starts with a bit of a mystery- some missing soldiers. And Cain reluctantly leading the search for them. His self serving style often catches people off guard, since they expect the more selfless hero. But he gets the job done. I loved the story so much I purchased his other audiodrama and his first three novels on Kindle and have already started on the third.

Would Have Preferred a Book

If you have ever read Heart of Darkness, then this is that story shortened and set in the Warhammer 40k universe. The story is good, but I have always preferred text over audio when it came to books. Don't get me wrong this was a great performance, but I find audio books less immersive than text books. Anyway this is the only form to get this Ciaphas Cain story, so it was pretty good for what it was.

Wish it was longer.

Its a great preformance by the narrarator, the soundeffects are really lifting the story telling. Fast, mysterious and thrilling. But I wish it was longer. Could have been a 3 hour tale, without making it any boring.
I feel this should have been sold at 5$ and not what I paid (about 9$)

Not bad

This was a nicely written short story. What I didn't appreciate were the added sound effects in the background. Some of them were okay and fit the narrative, but most were obnoxious.

If you like Cain I highly suggest this.

If you love Warhammer stories that don't take themselves too seriously I recommend this. This is not Cain's best story but is a good way to burn some time and get more backstory for Cain.

Awesome story, but way too short.

I felt like I was listening to an old time radio show of Tales of Suspense or Philip Marlow. The added sound effects and the voice acting was very good. I am very disappointed in this story's length though, as I was hoping it would last several hours (I should have seen the length before hand).

nice little action piece

Another fun Cain story. It's well produced. The sound effects add a lot of atmosphere without overpowering the voices. Overall I prefer "The Devil You Know" but this is worthwhile as well, especially if you know the character already. If you don't I suggest starting with "The Devil You Know" or "Ciaphas Cain: For the Emperor".

I like how Sandy Mitchell writes Cain in such a way that you understand the character's though process and why he is so effective at his job. He is a great reluctant hero type. This story is good but it does end a bit abruptly.

Too simple, short, and inferior.

The first Warhammer Audiobook was Ciaphas Cain: For the Emperor, which was incredible. story wasn't the deepest, but still interesting, the writing great, the characters interesting, and the presenters all fantastic.
This story in comparison, is painfully shallow, agonizingly short, and as such goes no where. I honestly thought the book had glitched, when it ended one hour in. The performance compared to the other was also far from perfection, particularly the narrator using two vastly different voices for Ciaphas depending on who he was addressing. Overall, I'm extremely annoyed at this short story, for costing even a sixth of a full book, which is usually around 8-14 hours in length.

Sandy Mitchel gives another solid story.

Another fun and adventurous Cain story that once again makes him an unwilling hero. I enjoyed my listen to this story.

desperately need more in this series

great narration and sound, a fun story, short and sweet perfect for a long drive to work but I'd much prefer a collection of these put together as one

It's Cain, but not as you know it...

A short Cain story, but without all the snark, social manipulations and inquisitorial footnotes that make the novels worth reading

Short but sweet

I will admit that, while familiar with the universe if Warhammer 40K, this was my first direct encounter with these specific characters. That is something that I fully intend to rectify as soon as possible.

Shorter story for some extra sound effects

Ciaphus Cain stories are normally good, but this particular story seemed to be the opening for something bigger. I wasn't expecting only an hour for my credit.
