About this listen

In the distant past, a time of magic and swordplay, there lived Harold, the mightiest lich of all, a master of arcane sciences, and a challenger of gods. After reaching the pinnacle of his power and finding it surprisingly bland, Harold waged a cataclysmic war against the gods, aiming to shatter the very system that confined him.

He took a nap, but he is awake once more.

Upon discovering that the new gods have been using some of his phylacteries as batteries to sustain themselves and grow more powerful, Harold has decided to take back what is his. He won't be alone. Accompanied by his faithful butler and maid Alex and a limpet that just won't leave no matter how often he teleports her over the nearest lake, Harold journeys north and east.

The Flaming Steppes await. An untamed land where great mantises roam and where a few fiery sects have made their homes, cultivating and growing in one of the harshest environments in the Divine Kingdom.

They are not prepared for Harold and his companions.

This feels like it left on a bit of a cliff hanger. Like the plot in the forgery steps wasn’t complete. It’s not bad but it does suck a little to not have a complete arc like book 1. Sill amazing, love the character development and the new characters introduced. The setting is nice and I look forward to a more Harold focused part 2. Although i wouldn’t be upset with part 2 also heavily focusing on the limpet’s character progression.

Once again the VAs at sound booth knock the ball out of the park with a spectacular performance. Each character feels new and unique even the mantises. Seriously good work guys.

Part 1 I assume

I read a post a while back from the author talking about how the second book ended up being split in two and I can feel it. it is still a great story despite the ending feeling off

The story continues to impress and be enjoyable without falling off. New characters who are likeable and the hint of something big coming, excited for book 3

Highly enjoyable

Cons;
• the voice of some male characters I found difficult to understand.
• Story had a little bit of drag in the beginning.
• Personal preference, I have a hard time with a Southern accent or "Southern drawl".
Pros;
• All original cast returns.
• Puns are still punny 😁.
• Loved how the book took known spells from things like D&D and "evolved" them, while still explaining the originals for the more beginner readers.

P.s. I look forward to the author's next publication.

The adaptation of magic

The story continues and is just as good as the first. There are new and interesting characters and new adventures. Characters grow!

the performance was great i didn't enjoy the morbidity of this one. far less humour than the last, but probably all subjective, Alex was funny. mantis not so much. for a light hearted listen, killing lots of innocent people was just not enjoyable.

not my cup of tea
