"مرَّ أحد عشر يومًا منذ اختفاء الحاكم بأمر الله في جبل المقطم، وسئم العامة من تكرار البحث عنه يومًا بعد يوم وترك أعمالهم وأرزاقهم وبدأ يتغيب الكثير منهم رويدًا رويدًا، وكان أبي ضجَّ من ذلك الأمر أيضًا وجاهر به كثيرًا من أصحابه في أثناء اعتلاء الجبل والبحث، أما أنا فكنت أفرح بهذا فهو بابٌ من أبواب اللعب واللهو، ولكن في ذات ليلة قبل مغيب الشمس وأفول أشعتها ضجَّ الناس بصريخٍ وعويل فجأة وركضوا وهلعو باتجاه الجهة الشرقية من الجبل، وارتاع أبي وأصدقائه من فعل الناس وسأل أحد الراكضين عن فعله، فأخبره وهو شاحب الوجه:

الجبل يحترق...الجبل يحترق!!"

"الهزيم" هي الجزء الثالث والأخير من سلسلة الشماس تلك الرحلة الغريبة التي جمعت بين كياناتٍ مختلفة بأسلوب مشوّق يمتزج ما بين أدب الرعب والفنتازيا والأكشن.
