Publisher's Summary

Young Savannah Dubrinsky was a mistress of illusion, a world-famous magician capable of mesmerizing millions. But there was one - Gregori, the Dark One - who held her in terrifying thrall. Whose cold silver eyes and heated sensuality sent shivers of danger, of desire, down her slender spine.

With a dark magic all his own, Gregori - the implacable hunter, the legendary healer, the most powerful of Carpathian males - whispered in Savannah's mind that he was her destiny. That she had been born to save his immortal soul. And now, here in New Orleans, the hour had finally come to claim her. To make her completely his. In a ritual as old as time...and as inescapable as eternity.

Intense

What made the experience of listening to Dark Magic the most enjoyable?

The main character, The Dark One, Gregori, is intense, in total control of his world and is fascinating for the reader. As his world goes from grey to color, from unfeeling to feeling, the reader is taken through an intense, thrilling story laced with love and humor.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The Dark One

Did Sean Crisden do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

I know most readers would think his performance was too monotone but he is telling the story of a creature who has walked the earth for over a 1000 years and is in full control of everything and everyone around him. He has not really been challenged to be anything else until his lifemate demands otherwise, then the humor begins.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not able to do that but yes I could sit and listen to the whole story in one sitting if given the chance.

Any additional comments?

The Dark series is not dark, rather the series tell of a struggle among a species to survive, to protect, one with honor and integrity. I am thoroughly enjoying the whole series.

IMHO...I ENJOYED THIS NARRATOR MORE THAN ORIGINAL

I love this series. My only complaint...Gregori...should br pronounced...European Greg-OR-ee...not American Gregory...GREG-er-y. Anyone else agree?

Slow down the narration for a better listen

I found it's a much better listening experience when I slowed down the reading speed. At first it came across very monotone but when I slowed it down I was able to catch the inflections & emotions behind the words a lot better

pronounce the characters names right!

who ever is narrating these books needs to find out how to say the Carpathian names right. Georgi is NOT Gregory! If they can speak the Carpathian language they should be able to get the Characters names correct. Very hard to listen to Gregori and Savannah's story, when his name is said wrong thru the entire book!!

The worst narrator ever!

The worst narration. Horrible voices, and so many pauses and no really flow. The story is great but the performance is sorely lacking.

Great Book, Abysmal Performance

What disappointed you about Dark Magic?

The performance. This is a dramatic, intense book, where even a simply 'good' narrator would be greatly challenged. This is NOT a good narrator. Not for romance, and probably not for any kind of fiction, which requires being part actor.

What other book might you compare Dark Magic to and why?

Glancing at my bookshelf, I'd say the closest by another author, at least in tone, is Karen Marie Moning's THE DARK HIGHLANDER. Both stories revolve around a dark a hero, who hasn't always made the best choices in the past, and is now struggling to hold onto the remains of their honor despite terrible circumstances.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

At about 3 hours in I can safely say this: The reading tempo is repetitive and irritating. The emotional tempo is a constant, sleepy monotone. The characterization, while it receives +1 for differentiating between characters, gets a big -10 for how poorly they're handled. Listening to it is a real struggle - I end up bouncing between utter boredom and disgusted irritation. I will be returning this audiobook and its sequel by the same narrator. I will not be purchasing any others by this narrator unless a sample shows dramatic improvement.

Any additional comments?

Don't waste your money/credits.

Might as well be porn

What happens to these vampire romance series? Does the author get tired of thinking up new plots? This was a waste of time - the same romance of an overbearing man exuding power over a tiny woman with a tiny waist! Can’t believe these books are written by a woman. I like the first books in the series but in each subsequent book the sex scenes get more plentiful and all sound the same. Think up a new plot!!

Dark Magic

I absolutely love the Dark Series by Christine Feehan. I have both paper books and Audiobooks of the series. My only complaint is that when the narrator performs the book he or she needs to pronounce the names of the characters properly. It’s very off putting when you constantly hear the name spoken incorrectly. In Dark Magic he called the lead character Gregory not Gregori. Also in many of her newest books there are two performers. One for the male part and one for female. I enjoy hearing those books so much more. Just my opinion but one the author and publisher should seriously consider. But regardless I absolutely love the story line and can’t wait for the newest release on September 2020. I highly recommend the series.

NOT GREGORY

The name of the hero is spelled GREGORI. No other audio book pronounces his name as though it was spelled Gregory. His pronunciation was a distraction for the entire book.

Magical Moments

First I want to warn that there is a scene that may trigger PTSD sufferers. Gregori is animalistic and on the verge of loosing his soul, at his darkest moment when Savannah has no reason to trust or even like him, her compassion and love save him. Gregori is an old dog, but Savannah is determined to teach him new tricks. Their attraction and interactions are witty and steamy. Sean Crisden makes the story real, but I disliked no he enunciated Gregori as Gregory, other than that it is a fantastic listen.
