Publisher's Summary

It's been three months since former enforcer Amaranthe Lokdon and the notorious assassin Sicarius thwarted kidnappers and saved the emperor's life. The problem? Nobody knows they were responsible for this good deed. Worse, they're being blamed for the entire scheme. With enforcers and bounty hunters stalking them, and the emperor nursing a personal hatred for Sicarius, it's going to be hard to earn exoneration.

When Amaranthe's team discovers mutilated bodies in the city aqueducts and a mysterious illness incapacitates thousands of citizens, she and Sicarius see an opportunity to solve the mystery and prove their loyalty. But they'll have to defeat vengeful shamans, man-eating predators, and deadly mechanical constructs, all while dodging imperial soldiers who would rather kill them than accept their help.

Nobody said exoneration would be easy.

This series shows real promise

Would you listen to Dark Currents again? Why?

Definitely, the author has a gift for snappy dialog which is always going to play well on an audiobook

What did you like best about this story?

The team dynamics were interesting and well thought out and again some truly killer dialog

Have you listened to any of Starla Huchton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This series is the first I've listened to but I thought she did a credible job

Any additional comments?

This is not a perfect story by any means but it is thoroughly enjoyable which for an audiobook counts a lot more. Worth a listen

Background noises better in book 2

So, I was hoping for a better book 2, than the first one. The background noises that were extremely disturbing were not present anymore, but the narration really is not to my liking . Everybody`s voice is the same , which is ok, too , except for Maldynado, who she gave a very arrogant tone, which probably fits his personality . And Sicarius needs to not have a female , girly voice . The right narrator could bring this book to live. Since I really wanted to listen to this series, I am skipping book 3 and continue with book 4 , since it is read by a different narrator . A narrator really can make or break a book for me. I think Starla Huchton would be perfect for childrens books

I love Lindsay

Emperor’s warts. That is so great. Another great mystery in the steam powered and now magic powered world. I love all of the characters Lindsay has developed and I love the wonderful banter between our heroes. Once again we have very powerful and extremely scary villains
Starla voices are ok. I would have trouble narrating a novel mainly with female characters but I don’t make a living reading novels

Excellent

I am so glad I tried this series!! It is as fantastic as star kingdom without being a repeat. Which is a common problem with a lot of authors. Not only do I highly recommend this book but you have just got to read it!! You won’t regret it

Reader ruined an amazing book for me.

What did you like best about Dark Currents? What did you like least?

I am a huge Emperor's Edge fan and have read all of the books in the series. I have been impatiently waiting for them to come out on Audiobook so that I could have them in both hard copy and Audio. The narrator who read this book was horrible in my opinion. Her voice never changes with the characters, and it sounds like she hasn't mastered the ability to infuse emotion into her voice. The entire book bleeds together in one tone and inflection. About the only good thing that I can think of about the narrator of this book is that she enunciates well. Did no one listen to this AudiioBook before it was released? Lindsey Buroker is such an amazing writer that I can't believe that she would pick this person to deliver her book in Audio format.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator was horrible! She ruined one of my favorite books, and I can only pray that she does not narrate the rest of the serious!

Dark Currents: The Emperor's Edge, Book 2

Would you consider the audio edition of Dark Currents to be better than the print version?

Lindsay has become my top favorate author, she writes with much passion and wit that I re-read all her works. She is a new author and very talented bettre than most. Would like to see her as a best selling author.

What did you like best about this story?

Her books are page turners, her characters are fantastic, she makes her characters real in your mind. What else would you expect from a book??????

What about Starla Huchton’s performance did you like?

Shows Lindsay's emotion in her books

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The main character bringing togeather a group of people

Any additional comments?

I canno't thank Lindsay enough for what she has done for my heart. She has helped open it again.

Certainly Dark

You just knew the relationship between Sicarius and Amaranthe was going to smoulder. However, my only complaint is that I have not found immature talkative girls to really be attractive to the dark, silent moody types.

That aside, this is one of those light fantasy series that keeps you listening.
