Publisher's Summary

Perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Holly Black, this enemies-to-lovers adventure romance should come with a book hangover warning.

All magic has a price.

Haven survived the Devourers, but she isn’t any closer to breaking the curse. Meanwhile, her forbidden magic rages brighter and more dangerous every day. To control her powers and stand a chance against the Shade Queen, Haven made a bargain with two enemy immortals. Now, her waking hours are spent fighting alongside the Sun Lord, but her dreams belong to the Shade Lord.

Only, the closer she ventures into the wicked Shadow Kingdom, the more her magic shows itself and the more she struggles with whom to trust. The golden but wounded Sun Lord or the darkly charismatic Shade Lord. Both are off-limits. And both have the ability to save her or destroy her.

With the Shade Queen closing in and Bell’s time nearly up, Haven will sacrifice everything to break the curse, but will it be enough to stop the mortal realm from falling into darkness forever?

Welcome to the Kingdom of Runes where immortals and humans clash, light and dark magic reign, and mythical creatures lurk in the shadows.

If you like fierce heroines, enemies-to-lovers romance, wild plot twists, and endearing characters that stay with you long after you reach the end, you need to discover the book fans are calling dark fantasy at its best. Just make sure to clear out some space on your calendar first!

A fantastic second instalment...bring on the next

***Listened to audiobook***

This book is definitely not a filler book.

While I found the first book struggled to 'end' and resolve anything in the narrative, this book brought it all - love, death, betrayal, and a conclusion of sorts that ended one arc and began the next, ready to be answered in the next instalment. The characters deepened, questions and curiosities were answered and more were asked, relationships developed, and just...too many things happened to discuss in one review.

I don't know if it's just the brilliant narration, but this series has definitely surprised me with how much I like it. I hope the next one releases on audiobook soon!

*Audiobook review*
As mentioned above, super love the narrator of this series. She's just fantastic. Definitely engaging and fits the tone of the series well.

***Brilliant and Unforgettable***

This book ripped my heart out to pieces and I'm afraid it will never be the same again. It's a heart wrenching, beautiful story with phenomenal world and character building. It's addictive and can't get enough. Vanessa Moyen is brilliant in her narrative. She brings the story to life and gives it depths and colour.

Close but I struggle

Now that I am
Two books into this series I feel that have given it a really fair chance. I have a couple of problem I just can’t get past. No spoilers
1)I’m bored. The suspenseful moments are lack luster, the passionate moments are lukewarm. It’s missing intensity all around

2)often I had to refocus, reread or double check what I was reading bc I let thinking I had missed a chapter or even an entire book. Details that seem crucial to the story are just left for tot to infer and I just don’t understand why
3) many, many reviews compared it to
ACOTAR, that’s bc so much of the story and details are completely ripped off and not well I might add. If I had not read those books previously I may enjoy these more but it feels too much Like cheap fan fiction

kinda disappointed

I loved oath taker and was anxiously awaiting this one to be available on audible. but the almost love triangle and cheesy flirt/almost sex scenes were really annoying. idk I just felt like this is an over dramatization of what it feels like to be kissed or touched on the inner thigh. I found myself rolling my eyes at last twice in the same paragraph. haven also became the most dislike character with her constant pig headedness.

This series is EVERYTHING

I can’t say enough good things about this series, if you are on the fence about whether to continue on or not do it for your sake. I’ve read the books and the audio and I love them equally. The narrator does a great job of portraying the characters! Ugh the feels I cannot wait until the 3rd one.

Slow start

This book was better than the first, in that there was more action and there was some plot. Overall Book one and two could have been combined and the filler left out.
The narrator also seemed to settle in to the characters a bit more and was easier to listen to than the first time.
The reason this is 3 stars instead of 4 or 5 is because of the heavy handedness of this author taking a lot of concepts, plot, and characters from both Throne of Glass AND ACOTAR.

There were a few other reasons as well. One being the first mission was supposed to be difficult, but all Haven had to do was wait, something apparently dozens of other people who came before her were incapable of?
In the first few chapters the same exact sceene is written three times from three points of view, I almost DNF'd it from the repetitiveness. And the early chapters were also weirdly heavily detailed on her breathing. The beginning could use with a bit more editing.
Over the top descriptions (a shiver barrels down her spine what seems like a dozen times in a few chapters. His arm muscles jump like crazy when he's doing simple things like watching cloth.
And no one she travels with ever bothers to question how she suddenly improves with being able to use her powers with growing proficiency when she never trains while awake.
The almost sex scene, she he kisses her behind the knee (???) was really strange.
Haven will also argue just for the sake of arguing with someone trying to help her.
Bell is two books in with no character growth and the personality of a limp noodle.

I do hope that after this book the author will veer off into more original plot. I have high hopes for book 3 being an improvement as book 2 was markedly better than book 1 (even with it's flaws.
While the beginning was slow, it picked up about a third of the way in and it flowed better.

Awesome continuation, it made my “favorites” shelf with book 1

I never have any issues when Vanessa Moyen has narrated the audiobook, very fluent and clear. And the usage of different types of voices assure that the dialogues are a breeze to follow.

The Solissia (the immortal part of & it’s multiple races within this world) and Haven still have an unfinished and very challenging to-do list to break the curse and get Bell back. And the challenges ahead will be more dire than the events from book 1 now that they’re in the Ruinlands. This world is filled with darkness, it suffocates all light magic so it is not an easy place to be for the Solissia. Their group is made of all warriors that know how to push through the uncomfortable. And that’s inspiring.

It’s wonderful to see Haven and the Solissia grow towards eachother. The Solissia do have their reasons to dislike “the mortals” but they are slowly seeing more than a mere mortal in Haven. Although Haven did have to redeem herself at first in the beginning of this book after a mistake she made towards the end of book 1 with severe consequences for one member of their unusual team. She clearly knows she made a mistake and unlike many other protagonists, she really learns from it and steps up her game. She does whatever she can to do the right thing for others as well instead of only herself with her focus on rescuing Bell.
It makes for a nice balance between the nice interactions and the grim situations in this dark region.

The story not only follows Haven but Bell, Archeron and even Stolas get their moments as well. Stolas gets a bit more depth, there really is more to him than being the dark Lord of the Underworld.
I do love everything about this story, the world, all the different realms, the mortals and immortals lore but also every character. They all have their story and they were fascinating to follow, each and every one of them <3

I do want to mention this bit for whomever finds him-/herself struggle with the same thing:
I was a little bit hestitant at first to jump back into this story because for some reason I misread a few comments here and there and I had made some wrong assumptions about Haven’s (future) love interest. This is an enemy-to-lovers kind of love trope (although the focus is on the Fantasy aspects; the journey and the task at hand, you do spot the bantering in book 1 that can become a perfect match) but I feared she had jumped from one person to another and I seriously wanted to only ship the first one so I was relieved when I realized that this was a wrong assumption on my part and Haven isn’t shallow on that front (nor on other fronts, she really is all bark And bite lol).

I can’t wait to get to know her past, we do get a snippet here and there but not much. I really need to know everything because she clearly is not a basic human with her rosegold hair. But the void of information on that front is not annoying, it’s not forcefully held back, as I have experienced with some other books. It feels natural to only get to know more in a sequel but for my curiosity’s sake I do hope it’s revealed in book 3 lol. Recently heard this series will be 5 books in total, if all goes as planned, that is, nothing is set in stone of course. All I do know is that I need each and every one! Books 1 and 2 made my favorites shelf <3

Loved loved loved

I loved this book so much! It continues right where the last one left off and just kept going from the start of the book. I loved getting to find out more about the characters and this world. There is so much going on in this stories and the characters keep going and there were a few times I wanted to smack a character but it was still so good. I never wanted to put this story down and I can’t wait for the next book. The narrator did an amazing job and I never wanted the story to end. I seriously need the next book in the series.

THIS BOOK IS ON FIRE!!!

This is the second book in the Kingdom of Runes series. It starts right where book one ended. Haven is still on her mission to rescue Bell. Her connection between herself, the Shade Lord and the Sun Lord are getting interesting. Vanessa Moyen did an amazing job, as always. CAN NOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK!

Curse breaker is the 2nd in the series

The second book in the series and another great book. Haven continues where she left off in the quest to break the curse. Definitely read the first book first so that you get more in depth background of the characters so you appreciate what is happening and developing with the characters. Lots of twist and turns all I will say is looking forward to what happens in the next book could be very interesting and fun. The story and audio was good I didn't want to stop listening to it.
