Publisher's Summary

From the number-one best-selling author of Shatter the Bones and Birthdays for the Dead, a new crime thriller featuring DS Logan McRae. Detective Inspector Logan McRae is finally getting back on his feet after the events of the last few years. Putting things behind him. Getting better.… But it was never going to last. A body turns up on the outskirts of Aberdeen: burned from the neck up, hands chained behind the back.

More murders follow - all gruesome, and with only one obvious connection. The similarities between the real-life killings and the plot of a best-selling novel about witchcraft seem more than coincidental, but the more Logan digs the more dangerous and blurred the line between fact and fiction becomes. It’s a small step from police officer to victim. And somebody’s got to take it, or everyone will die.

Awesome narration

Have always loved MacBride as an author, but this was the first book of his I had listened to.. brought it to an other level. Great accents and characterization .. Steele sounded just as I had imagined her... made me laugh lots 😊

Absolutely disappointing

I've read all the series and was excited to see this one. I was totally disappointed. I struggled to finish it. At times I had to go back chapters to understand and make sense of it. The ending was totally ridiculous. It seemed like the author had ran out of idea's and rushed to finish.

Great listening

I love these books and over time the characters have become like old friends. I enjoy the way they have developed and the interaction between the different personalities. I hope to see more books in the future

Brilliant

I love the way McBride describes scenes - not usually into ‘witchcraft’
But this was great.

Keystone Cops

Stuart portrays the police as clowns. No wonder they can't carry guns. Good read 😅
