Tame nothing like cherringham
- By elizabeth b. on 25-05-2020
Publisher's Summary
When a hiker falls from a cliff edge while walking the Cotswolds Way, it seems like no accident. The more Jack and Sarah investigate the walkers on the trail that day, the more likely it seems that danger is still afoot. Is there a potential killer in this Cherringham tour group? And when will he or she strike again?
Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing duo: English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack. Thrilling and deadly - but with a spot of tea - it's like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby. Each of the self-contained episodes is a quick read for the morning commute, while waiting for the doctor, or when curling up with a hot cuppa.
Co-authors Neil Richards (based in the UK) and Matthew Costello (based in the US), have been writing together since the mid 90's, creating content and working on projects for the BBC, Disney Channel, Sony, ABC, Eidos, and Nintendo to name but a few. Their transatlantic collaboration has underpinned scores of TV drama scripts, computer games, radio shows, and - most recently - the successful crime fiction series Cherringham.
The narrator of the audiobook, Neil Dudgeon, has been in many British television programmes including the roles of 'DCI John Barnaby' in 'Midsomer Murders' and 'Jim Riley' in 'The Life of Riley'. He is also known for his film roles in 'The Nativity', 'Sorted' and 'Son of Rambow'. In 2012 Dudgeon starred as 'Norman Birkett' on BBC Radio 4's Afternoon Play series written by Caroline and David Stafford.

What a marvelous series.
These are the first audiobooks (out of the close to 800 titles in my Audible library and not counting, I would estimate at least a couple hundred titles I used to get in, first cassettes and then CDs) that I have ever changed the playback speed. I have, for the last few titles, reduced it to 3/4 speed. It’s nothing to do with the narration, Neil Dudgeon is superb. And technology has certainly come a long way in the quality of changing the audio speed as you’ll see if you ever play with those settings. Even at some of the extremes, the faster speeds don’t change the voice to “having just inhaled helium” nor the much slower ones sound as though a thorough inebriate has stepped up to the microphone. But back to my reason for slowing them down a wee bit; I enjoy the stories so much, it makes them last just a bit longer.

Real cliffhanger with some great twists
Love this series. This episode is especially good with Jack & Sarah investigating what seems to be an accident but turns into attempted murder with the victim not cooperating. Suspects are a Cotswold walking tour group including 4 Americans. Jack & Sarah must find the suspect with little to go on and the village police warning them off the case. A great audio book. Very enjoyable with Neil Dudgeon’s narration.

A lovable little series! MORE please!
This series of cozies is like comfort food to the anguished soul! This team of detectives, Jack and Sarah, can solve crimes in the time it takes to make a cuppa, and with charm, humor and good behavior. This is what we need more of during this time of pandemic isolation: we can't leave our homes for adventures, but we can go to Cherringham. PLEASE more of this series!

Another successful listen.
The plot is quite easy on this one, but still didn't figure out whodunnit until the very end. As that final piece of information is kept aside. Very easy to visualise the landscape as it's very descriptive. Neil Dudgeon is pushed to include more American character voices and at least one is quite annoying. Not his fault as it actually suits the character. Anyway the writers are clearly winding up the series, which is a shame as I've throughly enjoyed them all.

As always, totally superb. Great story, beautifully read. My only criticism is the dreadful intro and outro music -strident, old fashioned and has to be endured, not enjoyed, to get to the brilliant stories. Please keep writing them and please keep Neil Dudgeon reading them!
