Publisher's Summary

When Cherringham's Council debates selling the historic village hall for development as a luxury restaurant and hotel, all of Cherringham is up in arms; some seeing the sale as needed, others deeply opposed. For many, the centuries-old hall is the very heart of the community! But when the leader of the protestors is attacked after a raucous meeting and death threats are made, Jack and Sarah are asked to investigate. Can they find a possible killer before the crucial Council vote? And maybe stop a murder?

Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing duo: English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack. Thrilling and deadly - but with a spot of tea - it's like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby. Each of the self-contained episodes is a quick read for the morning commute, while waiting for the doctor, or when curling up with a hot cuppa.

Co-authors Neil Richards (based in the UK) and Matthew Costello (based in the US), have been writing together since the mid 90's, creating content and working on projects for the BBC, Disney Channel, Sony, ABC, Eidos, and Nintendo to name but a few. Their transatlantic collaboration has underpinned scores of TV drama scripts, computer games, radio shows, and the successful crime fiction series Cherringham.

The narrator of the audiobook, Neil Dudgeon, has been in many British television programmes including the roles of 'DCI John Barnaby' in 'Midsomer Murders' and 'Jim Riley' in 'The Life of Riley'. He is also known for his film roles in 'The Nativity', 'Sorted' and 'Son of Rambow'. In 2012 Dudgeon starred as 'Norman Birkett' on BBC Radio 4's Afternoon Play series written by Caroline and David Stafford.

Disappointing

I really love the Cherringham stories. But this one is not so good. It didn’t keep my attention I keep vague ING off. Pity Because they started off fun. I’m finding Sarah and jack bit dull these days. Ho-hum

Another charming episode

These little nuggets of mystery are like potato chips: you can never get enough.. more please! The narrator (Neil dudgeon) is incredible, the mysteries are pretty good, and the characters are totally relateable..

Another great mystery in this series! I so wish they would make this series into a tv show! I'm still waiting for Jack and Sarah to become a couple! I love how the narrator really brings these stories to life, he does an excellent job with everyone!

Love this series!

I listened to all 35 mysteries in the span of just one month. They are a great antidote to Covid quarantine. I love Sarah and Jack, and hated to come to the last one. I certainly hope that there are more to come.

A premature review here, but;

While I am only halfway through this title in the series, it is proving just as satisfying as I have come to expect. I have listened to every episode of this series as well as the longer books that aren’t part of the numbered series. They are very well written cozy mysteries that definitely rise above the majority of the genre. It almost feels a slight to even apply that moniker. Perhaps if every cozy series were to rise to this level, it wouldn’t feel that way. Without naming any names, there are a few other, very popular cozy series I listen to as well that feature a female and male combination doing the sleuthing, usually with the female lead being an amateur who, with a credibility stretching detective talent that so often rises above the male lead who are professionals in the detective world, in one fashion or another, to the point of eye rolling at times. That is another huge difference with this series. They have now been friends and partners in crime fighting for years (both in the real, publishing world and in their small corner of England contained in the series). Being a retired NYPD detective, the male here has taught the female lead over the years with her improving throughout and earning her partner’s respect both by her willingness to learn as well as her strengths she brings to the cases. In the other series I was referring to, the romantic parts can be a bit too much of the story and get a bit old. Oddly though, I’m at the point that I would actually like it if these two did get together. Well, that’s with a big caveat. I’d also hate it if it changed everything so much that looking forward to each new book in the series is no longer anticipated so eagerly. If any authors could do it, I think it would be this pair of authors. Wouldn’t want to leave out the narrator who deserves high praise for making every character easily distinguishable and seems to catch all the nuances of all different types of conversations and the emotions found in those conversations. Would hate to see the narrator changed in this series.

Another excellent episode in the Cherringham series

Another enjoyable listen as Jack and Sarah look into the shenanigans of a developer seeking to tear down the town hall and put up a luxury hotel and restaurant. Things get ugly when a professional agitator organized the opposition. With Sarah’s daughter involved with the opposition, the stakes to keep peace are high.

When are Book 36 & 37 coming out? (in English)

I love this series. I hope Neil Dudgeon manages to get out of lockdown and into a sound studio soon to record the next two books. I wish I spoke better German to listen to the audiobooks that have already been recorded. I much prefer Cherringham to Mydworth, more soon with Neil narrating please. P.S- You can also buy the paperbacks from Red Dog Publishing too, direct or via Amazon

Loved this series

I absolutely loved this series. It was like reading a TV series. I loved the fact that they were short mysteries. They were fun to read and the main characters, (Jack and Sarah) were fascinating. Neil Dudgeon did a great job narrating the stories. He did such a good job switching the American and English accents that I forgot sometimes that he was British.. I was disappointed when I read the last book.

Oh dear, ah well!

Sadly it had to happen, the desperation for a plot,is all too evident ! What with the confusion of which chapter is already in ones library, and which of these,is before the American returns from wherever he went to, and the kids had guinea pigs, or Sarah and the ‘New York cop’ hardly know each other, I don’t know where I am! Perhaps when they were compilations, it took the burden off the author, to have good plots, all the time, or it could be, I have grown out of Cherringham, yes I know Archers + Agatha C + the extra ingredient, but I don’t think it is that, I sense the author is bored, this really is the pits, sorry, and they were so good, once, perfect for a long journey or a sleepless night, ah well. And even, should I wishy to buy another, it is so confusing, its a waste of time, sorry, it feels a bit like criticising a 100 year old man, whose raised £40 million , but I would never do that!!

Great!

As always, Cherringham never fails to delight. Jack and Sarah are a wonderful duo, investigating crimes that are intriguing rather than harrowing. This episodes is up to the best of standards and is a gripping night - time listen. Neil Dudgeon is once again the best narrator possible, please don't ever change him. Looking forward to the next......

An enjoyable series

Very pleasant series. I bought the compendium of books 1 -3 and found myself enthralled by the writing and gripped by the storyline. Just right to provide relief in a time of lockdown. Neil Dudgeon is excellent as the narrator. Each book is easy to listen too. I found listening was relaxing as the stories are gentle bringing in characters from the village in subsequent books. Once started I found I had to get the next one to see how Jack and Sarah progressed in their sleuthing. An excellent listen worthy of a return. I hope book 35 is not the last one.

A good listen with great characters and continuity over the whole series. Well narrated by Neil Dudgeon. Audible - please continue to put Cherringham into sets of 3 stories. I don’t know why you stopped at 29. Thanks
