I really loved the first book in this series but this one didn’t quite measure up. The male and female narrators were off putting as they spoke as the same characters. It was also incredibly violent. There was so much violence. Too much. Despite that, the author is extremely good at how he writes and makes the characters real and you care about what happens to them which is why I persevered. The story could have been a lot better, in my opinion, and well worth listening to except for one main issue. SPOILER ALERT do not keep reading if you do not want to know the ending. The author killed almost all of the main characters which was really sad and I don’t trust authors who do that especially when it wasn’t necessary to kill Melody. She could have ended up with Larkin. Also the ending was ambiguous, I realised later it’s because book three continues their story. I have bought the next book which is the continuation, hopefully the main characters get to live. If not, I’ll stop reading this author, which will be a pity because the author is truly excellent and I absolutely loved book one. Book one was more about family.

A tightly packed story but the ending was a bit disappointing
