Three young women, their bodies planted in the same soil, their stories tangling like roots.

Editorial Review

What grows when you bury the bones
Some listens just leave you quiet, with nothing but the sound of your heartbeat filling the space. Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil did exactly that. It’s beautiful and painful and so full of longing: for freedom, for love, for a life that feels like your own. Told across three timelines, the story is layered and intimate, with characters whose lives twist around each other in ways that are heartbreaking, brilliant, and just a little toxic (okay, okay, a lot toxic). Self-care looked like not hitting pause—because when I did, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Julia Whelan, Katie Leung, and Marisa Calin bring it all to life with performances that flow together as seamlessly as the stories of María, Charlotte, and Alice. I finished it and just kept thinking: WOW, this is truly something special. —Patty R., Audible Editor

Honestly, Julia Whelan's narration talks me out of peri menopause. Like Addie Larue before this she just absolutely nails the tone of this book. as do the rest of the cast.

vampire tails are not my go, but this was a wonderful tail of lust, love, pain and all the special feeling of the living. and dead.

Spectacular Narration with Scwabb perfection.

Beautiful prose, compelling story lines, and expert reading. I wish this book could have continued for many more hours.

Beautiful all around

She has done it again. Hooked from the first word to the last. Just beautiful.

Perfection

The first 2/3 felt beautifully written and narrated, like listening to poetry. Unfortunately I disliked the last POV character and narrator so much that I could barely listen to it. Ruined the whole experience for me.
I loved her other book, Addie LaRue, so will still try another novel by VE Schwabb. I will also look for more books read by the first two narrators, as i enjoyed them so much.

Conflicted

This story was quite interesting, as with all of this author’s work.

However, it was excruciating to listen to.

The narrator reads every sentence like she’s about to reveal a piece of gossip. Could not stand the questioning, breathy quality to every sentence. Do a preview first to see if you can deal.

Good story. Terrible narration.
