About this listen

Sometimes dying isn’t even the worst part of your day.

Mark’s new life begins in the worst possible place—a burned-out village haunted by undead. Each morning these ravenous creatures disappear, only to return at night, driven by a relentless hunger. He'll need to stay low and think quick, because trapped and alone in the body of a child, he can’t level up in this new world. At least not yet.

Soon Mark will learn that even among the living, safety isn’t guaranteed. When the small town that he ends up in turns out to be at the center of a conspiracy that threatens the world, he'll need to uncover the truth before it's too late. Mark will need to find allies, gain levels, and face countless horrors in order to survive his second shot at life and prove that he's more than just a bog-standard hero...

With over 4 million views on Royal Road, this is no ordinary LitRPG. Bog Standard Isekai is a slow-burn, incremental, magical progression fantasy containing slice-of-life elements punctuated by moments of intense violence.

Good slow burn book, not over-powered early and with realistic expectations of what you would actually do. Well written characters and good system. Good writing and planned out story, narrator was great and gets better on the next one. Worth the buy for sure

Good intro to a series

A fantastic example of both classic litRPG combined with a thoroughly well planned and entertaining plot, full of unexpected twists along with foreshadowing that pays off.

Highly recommended.

I've just finished the second book, so coming back to write this while the first two books are fresh.

The story is great. Excellent characters and dialogue make the entire setting wonderfully believable, an area where a lot of LitRPG titles sadly fall short; favouring instead, more maths and edgelord brooding.

The narration is also great, with an oddly compelling style of bursts of speed offset by slower pacing, both at appropriate times.

A very original take on the genre, with complex and relatable characters. Fast paste and twisty, a must read! I don’t normally do reviews, but this one I had to review.

An amazing read!

I would pay 3 credits for a book this good. After listening to so many books one a day most the time. Some stories are good but some are like this. Good range of characters. A mc that isn’t overpowered but isn’t useless either. I will note chapter 34.5 is the only problem. Yet that’s because it’s a repeat of 34. Please write more in this series. Even if it is an amazing standalone book.

I read hundreds of titles and this story is worth every credit spent on it. I actually feel horrible getting it on sale.
