About this listen

The first thriller in the No.1 bestselling DS Logan McRae series.

Nothing keeps a crime hidden like fear…

‘Stuart MacBride’s thrillers just keep getting better’ Express

‘You can’t be an eyewitness if I cut out your eyes…’

Someone’s preying on Aberdeen’s growing Polish population. The pattern is always the same: men abandoned on building sites, barely alive, their eyes gouged out and the sockets burned.

With the victims too scared to talk, and the only witness a paedophile who’s on the run, Grampian Police is getting nowhere fast. The attacks are brutal, they keep on happening, and soon DS Logan McRae will have to decide how far he’s prepared to bend the rules to get a result.

The Granite City is on the brink of gang warfare; the investigating team are dogged by allegations of corruption; and Logan’s about to come to the attention of Aberdeen’s most notorious crime lord…

A bit too gory in places but compensates with dark humour. Will continue with series

Gripping plot and great narration

Am saddened at Laz’ decline… he’s been through so much…will have to keep up 👍

I wasn’t sure how much I would enjoy this audio book as the previous narrator was superb in bringing each character to life., Stuart’s performance was excellent. Another good story but hope Logan’s luck will change for the better soon.

Another good read

Really enjoying the series. As with most in the genre, a little slow to start and attention to detail needed throughout.

Author narrating his own really did help with the character development, and re-imagining them.

Only suggestion would be to listen at 0.90 as it's a bit too fast compared to the narrator of the prev unabridged versions.

Awesome

I was a bit sceptical going into this book due to the change of narrator but quickly became use to Stuart’s narration A solid effort and great job by him.

Storyline was full of twists and turns that keep you interested

Poor old Logan can’t catch a break and I killed myself laughing at inspector Steels last few scenes in this book. Well played 😀😀

Just as good

I found this book extremely hard for the first couple chapters as his narration isn't as good as the previous books. And I think we get used to knowing what each character sounds like.
I started listening. Gave up. Gave it one star. Then after a week or so tried again. Glad I did as he grew on me and it was another good story.
Looking forward to book number 6!

Another page turner

Author read this one and I found all the different voices extremely annoying. They were all high pitched and seems constant yelling instead of talking. Not the best of the series.

A bit annoying to listen

As my title says I didn’t think this book was as good as the first 4 by Stuart MacBride. I found it confusing and difficult to follow unlike the others. The author also narrated this book and I found his style of reading to be distracting almost like a pantomime at times. He reads too quickly compared to Steve Worsley, perhaps one of the reasons this book isn’t a highlight for me.
The story ranges from funny and comical in places to being incredibly gruesome in others.
Bring back Steve Worsley!

Not as good as the first 4 books
