Publisher's Summary
Here is a holistic approach to childbirth that examines this profound rite-of-passage, not as a medical event but as an act of self-discovery. Exercises and activities such as journal writing, meditation, and painting will help mothers analyze their thoughts and face their fears during pregnancy. For use during birth, the audiobook offers proven techniques for coping with labor pain without drugs, a discussion of the doctor or midwife’s role, and a look at the father’s responsibilities. Childbirth education should also include what to expect after the baby is born. Here are baby basics, such as how to bathe a newborn, how to get the little one to sleep, and tips for getting nursing off to a good start. Pregnancy, birth, and postpartum is a process of continuous learning and adjustment; Birthing From Within provides the necessary support and education to make each phase of birthing a rewarding experience.
Birthing from Within is wonderfully narrated by Camille Mazant. All exercises and activities referenced in the audiobook are included in the supplementary PDF.

A perfect handbook for all mothers to be
As a midwife and mother birth from within is a go to guide to navigate preparing for birth.
Personally I used the concept of art to explore emotions and to prepare parents for the journey ahead in my birth classes.
For new dads, art opened up the opportunity to explore feeling and to help their partners in their birth cocoon .
Thanks for the guidance.

Falls short of promise
I liked the aspects of this book that discussed art therapy and the importance of getting out of your analytical mind in order to birth. However, overall it’s lacking and dictates a little too often how birth ‘should’ be and look. I don’t like the way it dismisses husbands as support partners and has such a tiny section dedicated to homebirth. This book seems to emphasise making women who choose drugs or cesarean feel comfortable with their choices, while diminishing the legitimacy of all to homebirth and to rely on support people to help them along. In the end I didn’t finish this book as it fell short of my expectations.
