بشار بن برد ، الملقب بـ "المرعث" كان شاعرًا مخضرمًا حيث عاصر أواخر العصر الأموي وأوائل العصر العباسي.

كان بشار من أصل فارسي وإعتبره بعض العلماء أنه الشاعر الأول "الحديث" وواحد من رواد الأدب العربي ويعتقد أنه كان له تأثير كبير على الجيل التالى من الشعراء.

هذا الشاعر ولد أعمى ولكن قلبه ومشاعره رأت كل شيء ووصفت كل شيء بجماليات للان موجودة في حاضرنا بأدب رفيع وراقي هو من قال عنه الجاحظ : "وليس في الأرض مولد قروي يعد شعره في المحدث إلا وبشار أشعر منه."

بعد قيام العباسيين ببناء بغداد ، انتقل بشار من البصرة إلى بغداد ، وأصبح مرتبطًا بالخليفة المهدي بسبب مهارته ولكن من سوء حظه أن المهدى أراد أنْ يظهر فى مظهر المؤيد للدين المحيى لعقيدة الإسلام، فاتخذ صفات منها، الشّدة فى تقصّى الزندقة فأنشأ ديوان الزنادقة، والإعراض عن الشعر الغزلى، والثالثة إفراطه فى الغيرة على النساء وإغلاظ الحجاب ولهذه الأسباب كانت نهاية شاعرنا صعبة وأليمة سنتعرَّف عليها بالتفصيل في هذا الكتاب.
