For over 40 years Jeremiah had called God’s people to repent from their insincere worship, social injustice and degenerate practices. He prophesied that a new rising empire would bring calamity and great destruction and The Lord would judge His people.
Ultimately, the majority of God’s people would prefer to pay lip-service to a corrupt temple system and in losing the knowledge of God they would listen to lying prophets and continue presumptuously in sin even in the face of The Lord’s promised coming judgment.
