Bók Sakaría er lengst rita minni spámannanna og hefur um margt sérstöðu meðal þeirra. Til einskis rits Gamla testamentisins er oftar vitnað í frásögnum Nýja testamentisins af þjáningu, dauða og upprisu Krists. Bókin skiptist í tvo býsna ólíka hluta. 1.–8. kafli hafa einkum að geyma sýnir spámannsins um Jerúsalem og endurreisn musterisins, hreinsun Guðs lýðs og þann messíasartíma sem í vændum er. 9.–14. kafli hafa að geyma ýmiss konar efni. Þar er að finna spádóma gegn útlendum þjóðum en einnig boðskap um Messías og hinsta dóm. Í síðari hluta ritsins er áberandi hve vegur prestaættanna er orðinn mikill.
