Actor Mohanlal has been honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in recognition of his lifetime contributions to Indian cinema. Instituted by the Government of India in 1969 in memory of Dadasaheb Phalke, who is regarded as the father of Indian cinema, this is the country's highest film award. This is the second time that a Malayalam actor has received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award
