About this listen
Tuesday, September 16th: Jesus may be the most quoted—and misquoted—voice in history, and today we trade popular Christian clichés for the real words and ways of Jesus. We start with “God helps those who help themselves,” showing how the gospel offers grace to the helpless and how Jesus seeks and saves the lost (Luke 19:10) while Paul insists salvation is gift, not achievement (Eph. 2:8–9). We face our tendency to downplay sin, remembering that Jesus is gentle with sinners yet refuses to minimize the gravity of sin—grace first, then transformation (John 8:11). We contrast karma’s tidy payback with the scandal of grace, where people receive mercy they never earned and justice is satisfied at the cross. We realign prayer away from formulas and toward the Father’s will, looking at Gethsemane—the “oil press”—where Jesus prays, “Not my will but Yours.” We reset expectations about discipleship: Jesus promises presence and purpose, not an easy life, and calls us to take up our cross. We also address God’s timing in prayer—He hears, but answers with wisdom, not on-demand delivery. Finally, we take seriously Jesus’ exclusive claim to be the way to the Father (John 14:6), sharing truth with gentleness and respect while inviting anyone and everyone to come. The whole episode is an invitation to read Jesus in context, repent of slogans, and follow the real Savior with a humble, trusting heart.
