About this listen
The Philadelphia Phillies rally late to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 8-4!
Phillies starter Ranger Suarez was cruising along until the 6th when he allowed back-to-back one-out singles, followed by a three-run homer by Alexander Canario. Realmuto called for a fastball in on Canario, but Suarez sailed across the plate and the Pirates’ right fielder put a good swing on it and smacked it 391 feet out of the park.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Phillies’ bats picked their pitcher up. Johan Rojas worked one-out walk after an eight-pitch plate appearance. Then Trea Turner flared a bloop out to left field that just bounced out of the mitt of Tommy Pham. Bryce Harper worked a walk to load the bases. Kyle Schwarber then drew a walk with the bases loaded in a run to make it a 3-2 game followed by Nick Castellanos getting hit by a pitch to force in another run to tie the score at three. After a Pitching Change, JT Realmuto worked another bases loaded walk to force in the go-ahead run. Then Alec Bohm capped off the scoring in the inning, with a SF RBI to center field. When the smoke cleared it was a 5-3 Phillies lead.
The rally not only took Suarez off the hook, it put him in line for the win.
The Phillies tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the 8th, thanks in large part to Trea Turner’s RBI triple. Bruce Harper also drove in his second run of the game and 1,001st RBI of his career.
