Ein Mann wie eine Opernfigur: Ferdinand Lassalle - Revolutionär und Salonlöwe - hat ein kurzes, aber furioses Leben gelebt. Im Frühjahr 1825 geboren, stand der streitlustige Theoretiker und Agitator an der Wiege der deutschen Sozialdemokratie: Im Mai 1863 gründete Lassalle zusammen mit einigen Mitstreitern den "Allgemeinen Deutschen Arbeiterverein" - aus dem ein Jahrzehnt später die SPD hervorgehen sollte, die erste große Massenpartei Europas. 1864 fiel der Arbeiterführer mit der theatralischen Attitüde - nach einer verhängnisvollen Liebesaffäre - im Duell mit einem Nebenbuhler.
