Until I accidentally vaporized my maths teacher. That's when things started really going wrong. Now I spend my time fighting with swords, battling monsters with my friends, and generally trying to stay alive. This is the one where Zeus, God of the Sky, thinks I've stolen his lightning bolt - and making Zeus angry is a very bad idea.

The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

The third fantasy adventure in the Percy Jackson series is now available to download, complete and unabridged, on audio. It's the last Friday before the winter holidays but Percy Jackson isn't at school: he's battling the fearsome Manticore (half human, half lion), which in itself isn't ideal . . . but with Annabeth missing and the goddess of the hunt held captive, things get a whole lot more serious . . . Greek mythology relocated to modern-day America.

Story
Twelve-year-old Sophie has never quite fit into her life. She’s skipped multiple grades and doesn’t really connect with the older kids at school, but she’s not comfortable with her family, either. The reason? Sophie’s a Telepath, someone who can read minds. No one knows her secret - at least, that’s what she thinks.... But the day Sophie meets Fitz, a mysterious (and adorable) boy, she learns she’s not alone. He’s a Telepath too, and it turns out the reason she has never felt at home is that, well...she isn’t. Fitz opens Sophie’s eyes to a shocking truth....

I look like a normal kid. Only there's a difference. Poseidon, God of the Sea is my dad. Which sounds cool, but actually means there is usually someone (or something), somewhere, trying to kill me. Now I live at Camp Half-Blood, with other kids like me. But Camp Half-Blood is a bit different to most summer camps. Instead of toasting marshmallows and singing campfire songs, we battle giant cannibals at dodgeball. This time, we're under attack and I need to get my hands on the Golden Fleece or we'll be invaded by monsters. Big ones.

Publisher's Summary
The unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of Artemis Fowl, the explosive first novel in Eoin Colfer’s best-selling Artemis Fowl series. Read by the actor Gerry O’Brien.
Twelve-year-old villain Artemis Fowl is the most ingenious criminal mastermind in history. His bold and daring plan is to hold a leprechaun to ransom.
But he’s taking on more than he bargained for when he kidnaps Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon (Lower Elements Police Reconnaissance Unit). For a start, leprechaun technology is more advanced than our own. Add to that the fact that Holly is a true heroine and that her senior officer Commander Root will stop at nothing to get her back and you’ve got the mother of all sieges brewing!

Believe the hype - excellent antihero!
I always get a bit nervous getting a "Bestseller", as they can be a crushing disappointment if it's just hype. I am delighted to report, this book is actually very good.
My 10 year old struggled to read the paper version, as it is a doorstop of a book, so we got the audiobook as well. Both boys were blown away. The fairies are not the gossamer, sparkly Disney Princess type. They are gritty, tough, trained SAS officers who wipe human's brains and generally think us stupid, cruel and slow. Enter Artemis Fowl, the 12 year old genius ready to take them down ...
This book is absolutely peppered with fantastic cliff hangers, and it became one of my favorite games to wait for one during the car journey (".... something was coming. It didn't sound good ....") and then announce it was time to turn off. Que howls of complaint from the back seat :-) Well, you have to have some fun don't you ....

Good Listen
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would. I enjoyed the narration and the story was well thought out and funny.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I liked all the characters. I am looking forward to learning more about them in the other books.
What aspect of Gerry O'Brien’s performance might you have changed?
He has a gruffer voice than I expected and it took a while to get used to. He doesn't do individual accents, which I thought was a blessing. Men don't always do female voices well.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I did laugh during this. I won't give away any moments.
Any additional comments?
It was a good story, well thought out and presented.

Overall a very good audiobook
Overall the story is great and very compelling, however, at some points Artemis sounds a bit like the Joker when he's about to die in Arkham City, almost... Wheezy. Although, it's not necessarily a bad thing, just a strange narration choice. Also, Artemis sounds completely different to how he's described. Again, not necessarily bad, just strange.
